New! API for Podcast Transcripts

We’re excited to announce that developers can now pull episode transcripts from the Podchaser API.

It’s been said that podcasting is a bit of an opaque medium. Longform content, thousands of words and ideas, all wrapped up in a single impenetrable audio file. So what’s actually in the episode? What did they talk about that whole time? While some podcasters add transcripts to their show notes or website, the majority stick to a brief episode description, maybe some tags, and that’s about it. This makes it hard to easily discover what’s been said in a podcast.

Well at Podchaser we’re on a mission to make podcasts more discoverable and accessible for everyone. We’ve built a whole platform on making it easier to find out what a podcast is about, who’s in it, and if it’s worth your time to listen to.

Today brings us the next phase of podcast discovery and accessibility, and it starts with transcripts. With transcripts, you can peer into an episode and find out exactly what was and wasn’t said. With transcripts, you can search podcasts to see if they mentioned a specific topic, a brand name, or a keyphrase. In a sense, you can track word-of-mouth.

Taking the next step to freeing the podcast from its auditory shackles, we are adding transcripts to Podchaser’s API. In this beta release, developers can retrieve JSON transcript files of episodes from the top 5,000 podcasts.

Utilizing cutting-edge, human-in-the-loop transcription techniques, we not only transcribe the content of the episode, but also advertisements and promotions. These transcripts can help products and services make podcasts more accessible, power media monitoring platforms, track media trends, and much more.
