Forgotten TV

1) In one sentence, what is your podcast about?

Forgotten TV brings you TV memories from the 70s and 80s from the fondly remembered to the obscure, with a focus on short lived shows, pilots, and made for TV movies.

2) Who should listen to your podcast?

Anyone interested in 70s/80s era entertainment should listen to Forgotten TV. Most episodes are a comprehensive look at a particular TV show. I include little known facts about TV shows and have pointed out inaccuracies online about them. Little known facts included tracking down never before seen pictures of The Highwayman toy prototypes as well as the current location of The Highwayman truck; finding an actress from The Fantastic Journey did not die in the 70s, as many sites claim; and finding the author of the original story Time Travelers and The Time Tunnel were based on, who never received credit for his story.

3) How long have you been podcasting and why did you get into podcasting?

My current stint of podcasting began about two years ago when I was invited to be on a round table discussion of A Very Brady Christmas on VHS Rewind. This led to a co-hosting spot on Walnut GroveCast, and soon after I started Forgotten TV in March of 2017, an extension of the Forgotten TV blog I have had since 2007. About nine years ago I also produced a round table discussion podcast on tech news.

4) What non-podcasting hobbies do you have?

I have turned my Chevy cargo van into a solar powered camper and have enjoyed a few trips in it, most notably a month spent exploring Colorado.

5) Tell us about your setup!

I usually use a Behringer XM8500 dynamic microphone on a Gator desktop stand and Xenyx Q802USB mixer, a total of $125 setup. I have experimented with other mics and so far my voice has sounded the best on the XM8500. After using the laundry room for a year, I decided to build an enclosed studio in the garage to let people do laundry and be able to expand the amount of time I can guest on other shows as well as produce better sounding audio.

6) What is one show (other than your own) that you think everyone should listen to?

I would recommend listening to No Agenda with Adam Curry and John C Dvorak. They have done over 1000 shows and while I don’t subscribe to every viewpoint presented, they do provide a critical analysis of media deconstruction I haven’t seen anywhere else. Between the two of them, they have backgrounds in entertainment, TV production, internet startups, tech journalism from both a domestic and international perspective.

7) Anything else you’d like to share?

One thing I’ve learned is the internet is not always right. IMDb and certainly Wikipedia can be wrong, people are not always dead just because websites say so, incorrect people can receive credit for things they did not do, and the credits on TV shows can even be wrong.  And not everything is online. Pulling up old newspapers, magazines, or books is sometimes required.
