The brilliant, singularly-talented William Osman takes a unique approach to creating content: truly, there’s only one egg-dropping madman on YouTube.⭐️ Click here to unlock the full 1 hour 35 minute ad-free episodeIn this episode, William Osman tells us about making fairly pedestrian laser-cutting videos with the goal of landing a job… and how a laser cut bust of Vin Diesel made out of ham and cheese kickstarted his popularity. We also learn about what it's like to live with fellow YouTuber Michael Reeves and how it inspired William to create a carpet that delivered an electric shock when his roommate walked too loudly.Oh, and we talk about why it might’ve been a mistake to start with the strongest electric fencer at the store, and what it’s actually like to be electrocuted. Over and over.Along the way, we dive into William's obsession with why McDonald's ice cream machines are always broken, including his theory surrounding their maintenance -- AND his long-term plan to get a job at McDonald’s to know for sure. We also dig into the massive amount of work it takes to run a channel, and more specifically what it takes to create merch that doesn't suck. While William’s goal is to educate and entertain, he’s a master craftsman of consistent narratives that keep viewers interested even when a topic can be a bit dense. William’s storytelling dynamic his trademark whimsical, fly by the seat of your pants style has created some of the most engaging content on YouTube… and our full conversation reveals what it really takes for him to keep creating sustainably (hint: it involves having a Caretaker and pushing back against some family criticism).Join our Patreon to unlock the extended episode, which includes additional, more personal content, including:William's expert relationship adviceMatt's run-in with Thai foodThe grim fate of the ham and cheese Vin DieselWilliam's advice for overcoming family pressure to "get a real job"How William quantifies successMaking a living on YouTube🚀 Check out William Osman on YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram.Videos mentioned in this episodeLaser Cut Vin Diesel Ham and Cheese SandwichTraining My Roomate to Walk QuietlyScream Powered MicrowaveTHE CREATE UNKNOWN⭐️ Unlock the full ad-free episode on Patreon📺 Watch this episode on YouTube❤️ Rate & Review this episode on Podchaser🎥 CREDITS:Hosts: Kevin Lieber and Matt TaborExecutive Producer: Dave KeineEditor: Adam GanongTheme by Mega DriveSpecial Thanks: Mo Lewit and Paula Lieber"The Create Unknown" is produced by Unknown Media💬 CONNECT WITH US:Chat with us on DiscordFollow us on TwitterFollow us on InstagramFollow us on FacebookFollow us on PodchaserView our website
The intensely fun and funny Kingani joins us to talk about how the next generation of creators see the online and offline worlds. Ani is a hugely popular comedy YouTuber who rose to fame through the Discord community and now is an integral part of the "Reddit Crew" (or whatever you want to call them). It’s an entirely new realm for "boomers" like Kevin and Matt, so Ani provides on-the-ground insights into how the community sees hot button issues like YouTube drama, the Social Blade controversy, and the Two YouTube's Theory. As the role of creator evolves beyond carefully-scripted videos and just racking up views, what are the implications for maintaining private and public personas as communities take on a life of their own? Is it possible to connect with fans while maintaining a healthy private, personal life? Kingani lends her spectacularly illuminating point of view as she evolves along with WildSpartanz, Quackity, Kwite, Bluesdank, and the rest of the Reddit Crew. I think we boomers are finally starting to figure out what these young rapscallions are all about! Derek Muller of the science channel Veritasium joins us to talk about his new study of the YouTube algorithm and how it helped him rocket a recent video to over 30 million views in days. We dive deep into how a conversation with MrBeast got Derek to think differently about why YouTube promotes certain videos and why others get buried. What are the implications of these changes, and how does it shape the way people consume content? Is YouTube becoming more like the music industry, where creators have greatest hits rather than consistent views? We also talk about the unique challenges of creating educational content and how to approach topics that might not be 100% original. Along the way we touch on viral tweets, pools full of gummy bears, and the properties of the element Veritasium. We’ve dubbed CallMeCarson the “DaVinci of Dumb,” and he’s earned that title. Carson is leading a new genre of comedy in which sophisticated, multi-faceted humor is reduced to what can only be described as perfectly dumb content. We unpack where that humor comes from and how it’s formed as we reveal just how smart Carson has to be to act so dumb. A lifetime of total saturation in all things YouTube has turned Carson into a quick, sharp humorist with a knack for building thriving communities of fans -- including a Discord with nearly 200,000 members. From cursed images to Discord pranks, Carson pulls back the curtain on his behind-the-scenes preparation that allows him and his friends to create seemingly effortless content that makes millions of fans happy. We also explore Carson’s ambition to jump into fashion and the surprisingly awful story behind the origin of Santa Claus. Check out Carson on YouTube, Twitter, and his podcast Goopcast. ⠀ ⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼ ⠀ WATCH US ON YOUTUBE Watch full live-action episodes at youtube.com/thecreateunknown Check out clips and bonus videos on our at youtube.com/TCUhighlights ⠀ JOIN OUR DISCORD Chat with us on The Create Unknown Discord!
