Afua Baafi Quarshie is a Ghanaian scholar and Ph.D. candidate in the History Department at Johns Hopkins University, specializing in women’s histories and social change in post-independence Ghana. Her research examines how motherhood and family life were influenced by economic and political crises, as well as the spread of neoliberal ideas through state, private, and international institutions in urban Ghana. Before pursuing her doctorate, she worked at the U.S. Department of State and the University of Minnesota. Quarshie holds a B.A. in Political Science from Carson-Newman University and an M.A. in International Affairs from American University.
