We’re excited to dive into film production today, with a very prolific film producer, master builder, Gill Holland. Show Notes You wear a lot of hats, and are continue to be very respected in film and music world. Tell us more about your workflow, and how your film and music roles intersect. You've managed to have a successful career, living on the indie side of Hollywood, before we jump into your current work, give us a few highlights from projects over the years. A story or two, lessons learned (emerging filmmakers want to learn from these podcasts) So you have two films that have been playing the fest circuit, that will soon be seen by audiences, on their platform or choice I assume. 7 Splinters in Tim is one of them. Tell us more about this project and how/when our listeners can see it? Beauty Mark is another film of yours recently acquired for distribution. Give us some background on how you got involved in that project. Since this is clearly in the Cause Cinema space, and knowing it is based on a true story, was there a mission to just share this important story, or was there an intention to create a call to action or movement? I know, I know. That whole University of Louisville shake-up has you all shook up. But let Rusty distract you with two of the most interesting people in the ‘Ville. Regular Rusty listeners know Gill Holland from his appearance in Show #11, and then again last year when he was running for Metro Council. Nowadays […]
Have you ever wondered how Gill Holland got started? He built a company that The Hollywood Reporter named as one of the top ten movie production companies in New York City. He runs his own record label and music production companies with world famous artists. He currently runs another movie production company with multiple award winning films. And, if that's not enough, he and his wife spearheaded the revitalization of one of Louisville's coolest neighborhoods (NuLu). Now they're doing it again in the Portland area of Louisville with the Portland Investment Initiative.
Often, you hear people joke that to make a small fortune in the movie business, you have to start with a large fortune. Is that what happened?
The real story is much more inspiring and a great example to our local entrepreneurs!
How to get started with no money? How to build companies with grit, tenacity, and sweat equity? How to make things happen because you believe in yourself and your goals?
I really enjoyed learning how Gill got started, and you will too!
