Jeffrey Scot Tweedy is an American songwriter, musician, and record producer best known as the singer and guitarist of the band Wilco. He started his music career in high school in his band The Plebes with Jay Farrar, which subsequently transitioned into the alternative country band Uncle Tupelo.
This week we present an around-the-country of WWDTM, along with special guests Tony Hawk and Jeff Tweedy.
Jeff and Spencer are father-and-son bandmates in Tweedy, and musical collaborators across other projects, too. Jeff is the lead singer and songwriter of the band Wilco, so music would have always been a part of their family’s life, but making music together has been the way the two of them have connected since Spencer was a very young kid. You can find their music at, and find them on Twitter at @jefftweedy and @spencertweedy.
It has been twenty-five years since Jeff Tweedy founded the seminal alt-country band Wilco. The band still performs together, while Tweedy contributes his talents to other projects too - musical,  and now literary, with the publication of a 2018 memoir, “Let's Go (So We Can Get Back): A Memoir of Recording and Discording with Wilco, Etc.” Tweedy’s newest solo album, “Warm,” is his most personal to date. On January 11, 2019, Jeff Tweedy came to The Sydney Goldstein Theater in San Francisco to talk with the writer George Saunders, author of  “Lincoln in the Bardo.”
Jeff Tweedy doesn’t spend a lot of time reflecting on the past. But he awakened a whole lot of it while writing his new memoir. That means he has fresh thoughts on his mind about Jay Farrar, Uncle Tupelo, the early days of Wilco, and coming into his own as a musician and producer, which is on display in his new solo album, Warm. Jeff also talks with Marc about his experiences with mood disorders, painkiller addiction, parenthood, and converting to Judaism. This episode is sponsored by YouTube Music, Nightflyers on SYFY, YouTube Music, Quip, and the New York Times Crossword App.
