Jim Murphy is the host of Opposite Attractions and formerly the host of A Horrible Premise. Jim has been studying the wonderful world of Disney for over twenty years, though it feels like longer. He is a former cast member of EPCOT under the Walt Disney World College Program, and has a decent Mickey Mouse impression when he wants to put some effort into it. His favorite theme park attractions are the World Famous Jungle Cruise, the Haunted Mansion, Peter Pan's Flight, and Sounds Dangerous Starring Drew Carey. That last one might be a joke. Have a magical day.
This week, we discuss our lost TMBG episode and then take a quiz about classical music and Disney, which wasn't exactly planned. Then, we set about making attractions for BPM involving famous movie songs. First up, Scottye brings to life The Great Movie Music Ride and hits all the right notes in a coaster-like cavalcade of screens and loud noises that even Universal Studios would be proud of. Then, Jim focuses on one particular film and has guests play God as they help a rambunctious teenager, his girlfriend, and an introvert in a hockey jersey have a good day in Chicago. No sausage kings are harmed in the making of this episode.Support Opposite Attractions: A Theme Park Design Show
Yes, we were going to be talking about They Might Be Giants this week. Actually, we did do that. Then the audio went haywire. We will be covering what our ideas were in our next regular episode and doing the challenge from the TMBG episode, but for now please accept another preview of FAQueue, our Patreon-only show where we discuss the history and wild stories about specific theme park attractions. It's been quite a while since we recorded this one, but it should be pretty evergreen. And if you wish to hear all of the FAQueueueueueueues including our next one (about all of Dollywood), then feel free to drop some cash on our Patreon (just like the patreon saint of OppAtt Ransom Meltzer ;) )Support Opposite Attractions: A Theme Park Design Show
This week, we do not discuss Mary Poppins Returns and instead find out which Moana song is most like us. It gets confusing. Then, we give our music based theme park a bit of that Hamilton charm as Scottye builds a story coaster (shocking!) based on the first act of the musical while Jim settles on just a single song, and has trouble remembering things from Alexander's life despite listening to the OCR a zillion times. We hope this recording will be enough.Support Opposite Attractions: A Theme Park Design Show
This week, Walt Disney World has (dare we say foolishly) reopened and we find out which Mickey Ears best suit our strange personalities while far, far away from its turnstiles. Then, we visit our own theme park to add in attractions based on the late 90s jam "Virtual Insanity". First up, Jim invites guests into a twisted padded tunnel for tons of potentially dangerous fun but sadly without CGI birds flying at your face. There may still be a blood pool by the couch though, so watch out for that. Then, Scottye takes the video's concept and expands it to create as much maze-like mayhem as possible. Find the cheese in the center of the attraction and you no doubt will win some zany headgear. Next week.... Hamilton.Support Opposite Attractions: A Theme Park Design Show
