Jim Newton is a reporter, editor, author, and teacher, known for having reported for the Los Angeles Times for 25 years.Currently, Newton is a lecturer in Communications Studies and Public Policy at the University of California Los Angeles Luskin School of Public Affairs. He also founded and edits the magazing "Blueprint," which addresses the policy challenges facing California and Los Angeles in particular.Newton received national and local awards in journalism and twice participated coverage that won the Pulitzer Prize, once in 1992 for coverage of the Los Angeles riots and once in 1994 for coverage of the Northridge Earthquake. He has published four books about history.Before joining The Times, Newton was a reporter at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He began his career as the 1985-86 clerk to New York Times columnist James Reston.Newton received his B.A. in Government from Dartmouth College.
