Former record executive and businessman Jimmy Iovine is best known as the co-founder of Beats Electronics, Beats by Dre, Beats Music, and Interscope Records. A native of Brooklyn, New York, Iovine worked at the famed Record Plant, engineering and producing tracks for John Lennon, Patti Smith, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, and Bruce Springsteen. In 1990, Iovine co-founded Interscope Records, signing artists like Andre “Dr. Dre” Young, Nine Inch Nails, No Doubt, and Eminem. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2022. Iovine and Dr. Dre launched Beats by Dre in 2006 followed by Beats Music. Beats Electronics, Beats by Dre, and Beats Music were acquired by tech giant Apple in 2014. The pair went on to co-found the USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy at the University of Southern California in 2013 following a major endowment. The Academy prepares students for the tech-driven global job marketplace using an integrated learning framework focused on technology, design, and business. In 2022, the first Iovine and Young Center launched in Los Angeles, distilling the curriculum of the Academy for the high school level.
