Matthew Tabor

Matt Tabor’s CV reads like a Mad Lib: entrepreneurship, academia, film production, woodworking and welding, international politics, and even professional bowling. In 2013, he drew on his long-time experience as Editor-in-Chief for a range of education publications to join Vsauce2 as a writer and producer. Matt is well-versed in both the creative and business sides of the industry, having represented talent and founded a 360° company that specializes in content, branding, and media production. He's the executive producer of the award-winning documentary film The Last Stop, and his writing and editing credits address public policy, the psychology of sport, old-time music, and international entrepreneurship. And to top it off, he’s also lived and worked in 8 countries spanning Europe, South Asia, and the Middle East, including several years employing game theory and risk management as a full-time poker player. He splits his time between Las Vegas and his 19th century family farm in Cooperstown, NY, and is equally comfortable discussing linguistic demography as the superiority of the cowboy boot.

Why Don't Rich YouTubers Retire?
The Create Unknown
PewDiePie and Ninja have reached the mountaintop. So have Jerry Seinfeld, Steve Martin, and David Letterman. Yet not one of them has decided to walk away from it all to live a stress-free life… except a handful of exceptions like Nicki Minaj and Rick Moranis. Why?⭐️ Click here to unlock the full 2 hour ad-free episodeIn this episode, we talk about what drives creators to continue doing what they do even when they're financially set for life and have a long list of accomplishments? We also talk about whether the guys will one day give up on YouTube and find new creative outlets, and why so many creative people never really stop (hint: they can’t).Along the way we dive into the inherent cognitive discontent that leads them to either keep making stuff or to burn out entirely... and we learn a new word to describe a distinct pressure in the lives of creatives: "anomie." We also talk about the stunning transformations of Filthy Frank and Rick Moranis and how their unique cases reflect just how difficult it is to be an entertainer. We develop contingency plans for when Michael and Jake try to murder you, Kevin hides his secret posters, and Matt has pee-pee poo-poo time. William Osman enters The Create Unknown
The Create Unknown
The brilliant, singularly-talented William Osman takes a unique approach to creating content: truly, there’s only one egg-dropping madman on YouTube.⭐️ Click here to unlock the full 1 hour 35 minute ad-free episodeIn this episode, William Osman tells us about making fairly pedestrian laser-cutting videos with the goal of landing a job… and how a laser cut bust of Vin Diesel made out of ham and cheese kickstarted his popularity. We also learn about what it's like to live with fellow YouTuber Michael Reeves and how it inspired William to create a carpet that delivered an electric shock when his roommate walked too loudly.Oh, and we talk about why it might’ve been a mistake to start with the strongest electric fencer at the store, and what it’s actually like to be electrocuted. Over and over.Along the way, we dive into William's obsession with why McDonald's ice cream machines are always broken, including his theory surrounding their maintenance -- AND his long-term plan to get a job at McDonald’s to know for sure. We also dig into the massive amount of work it takes to run a channel, and more specifically what it takes to create merch that doesn't suck. While William’s goal is to educate and entertain, he’s a master craftsman of consistent narratives that keep viewers interested even when a topic can be a bit dense. William’s storytelling dynamic his trademark whimsical, fly by the seat of your pants style has created some of the most engaging content on YouTube… and our full conversation reveals what it really takes for him to keep creating sustainably (hint: it involves having a Caretaker and pushing back against some family criticism).Join our Patreon to unlock the extended episode, which includes additional, more personal content, including:William's expert relationship adviceMatt's run-in with Thai foodThe grim fate of the ham and cheese Vin DieselWilliam's advice for overcoming family pressure to "get a real job"How William quantifies successMaking a living on YouTube🚀 Check out William Osman on YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram.Videos mentioned in this episodeLaser Cut Vin Diesel Ham and Cheese SandwichTraining My Roomate to Walk QuietlyScream Powered MicrowaveTHE CREATE UNKNOWN⭐️ Unlock the full ad-free episode on Patreon📺 Watch this episode on YouTube❤️ Rate & Review this episode on Podchaser🎥 CREDITS:Hosts: Kevin Lieber and Matt TaborExecutive Producer: Dave KeineEditor: Adam GanongTheme by Mega DriveSpecial Thanks: Mo Lewit and Paula Lieber"The Create Unknown" is produced by Unknown Media💬 CONNECT WITH US:Chat with us on DiscordFollow us on TwitterFollow us on InstagramFollow us on FacebookFollow us on PodchaserView our website
Is This The Worst Advice Ever?
The Create Unknown
There's a meme going around that seemingly everyone is hailing as fantastic advice: "Don't take criticism from people you wouldn't go to for advice." Categorically, this is dumb. Subjectively this is dangerously stupid. Kevin and Matt talk about why you should be open criticism and how seeking different opinions allows you to grow as a creator and as a person.⭐️ Click here to unlock the full 1 hour 45 minute ad-free episodeIn this episode, we also dive into how perfectionism isn't possible as a creator because problems constantly arise, includinng an all-night rotoscoping session to hide Kevin's cowlick while he drinks toilet water.Meanwhile, CAN WE SAVE KEVIN'S EYES?!?! Boomer Matt and Boomer Kevin talk about creator-specific health problems in a surprisingly riveting discussion on protecting your career assets.Along the way, we talk about Kevin's favorite commercial about children's bones, long haul truckers as future YouTubers, the most boring Discord pitch, how comedians get better at stand-up, we remember some good advice from iJustine and Casey Neistat, and even get into Kurt Cobain and The Beatles.Join our Patreon to unlock the extended episode, which includes additional, more personal content, including:Matt's philosophical pizza story from MumbaiOur favorite and most important albums🎧 Special outro song by Idea Baby Gang member, Basswaite. We Got Bludgeoned by YouTube's Hammer
The Create Unknown
In the wake of Vox Adpocalypse and the fallout from Carlos Maza and Stephen Crowder's feud, YouTube has rolled out more changes to its automated content regulation and countless channels have been swept up in the mess -- including Vsauce2. In this episode, we talk about how the brute force, computer-driven system is increasingly causing problems for creators who put out objectively inoffensive content.⭐️ Click here to unlock the full 1 hour 40 minute ad-free episodeWe also talk about how YouTube is now deliberately passing over quality content as seen in the algorithm's throttling of Coffee Break's recent examination of public policy on vaping, and YouTube's strange pre-crime stance on channels that use text-to-speech audio. Things aren't all bad, though, as we celebrate Grandayy and Nerd City for sticking up for creators and using their stature in the community for good.Along the way we discuss the first butt on television, Matt tries his best to get this episode demonetized, we get into the next big step for brands who want to be on YouTube, and Kevin plays the brown note.Subscribe to the Patreon for the extended episode, which includes additional, more personal content, including:How Kevin met MattThe Secrets of NetworkingA beautiful moment with iDubbbz at VidconThe guys try to pee in a submarineTHE CREATE UNKNOWN⭐️ Unlock the full ad-free episode on Patreon📺 Watch this episode on YouTube❤️ Rate & Review this episode on Podchaser🎥 CREDITS:Hosts: Kevin Lieber and Matt TaborExecutive Producer: Dave KeineTheme by Mega DriveSpecial Thanks: Mo Lewit and Paula Lieber"The Create Unknown" is produced by Unknown Media💬 CONNECT WITH US:Chat with us on DiscordFollow us on TwitterFollow us on InstagramFollow us on FacebookFollow us on PodchaserView our website
