Sekou Andrews is an award-winning recording artist, entrepreneur and two-time national poetry slam champion, he has also been featured on ABC World News, Good Morning America, MSNBC, HBO, BET, Showtime and MTV.
Yes it's true I did go to Disney, but not to see a mouse, instead to hear a mouth. More specifically, the poetic voice , you see how I did that Sekou – a amazing voice in a new category of awesomeness. That of Sekou (SAY – Koo) Andrews, last summer at a National Speakers Association meeting. And it is no surprise that it took over a year to get him on the show. You might find Sekou keynoting at a leadership conference, helping a global brand with messaging, or performing for Barack Obama in Oprah Winfrey’s backyard. Sekou is a school teacher turned national poetry slam champion and he also trains speakers to unlock their own Stage Might using rock star performance techniques. Sekou does more than inspire us with his story; he inspires us with our story. I'm thinking about making mine, "Nerd is the new sexy."

Sekou Andrews is a very passionate and motivating person. I first heard about him on the Tim Ferriss Show, and when I watched one of his TED Talks I knew I had to have him on the show. Sekou and I had some scheduling complications, and then some technology issues, but we ultimately made it happen and I'm so glad we did. He's talks with us about what it means to be a warrior, his routine before a speaking engagement, and how we can all get the best out of ourselves. If you're inspired by Sekou, you need to check out his webinar that he's hosting on October 18th. Click here for information on that event. Thanks for listening and be sure to thank Sekou on Twitter for joining us. @SekouAndrews @TimLawson21 @LockNLoadJava
This episode is a special double header. It features one interview and one performance. First up is Kaskade (@Kaskade), widely considered one of the Founding Fathers of Progressive House Music. He's been voted "America's Best DJ" twice by DJ Times, headlined Coachella 4x, and been nominated for Grammys 5x. Next, you'll hear Sekou Andrews (@SekouAndrews), the most impressive poetic voice I've ever heard. I first saw him perform at TED, where he blew my mind. Sekou is a schoolteacher turned 2x National Poetry Slam champion. He has presented privately for Barack Obama, Bono, Oprah Winfrey, Maya Angelou, as well as for many Fortune 500 companies. Each one of these takes a few minutes to get warmed up, so be patient. There are gems in both. Among other things... Kaskade covers his first breaks, making his own luck, formative musical influences, and we dig into his notetaking process, and the origins of one of his biggest hits. Sekou will inspire you to be inspired by your story. Do you want to change your narrative, your internal dialogue, to be more successful? Do you need to get back on the horse, or have an effective pep talk in your back pocket? This might be the recording you listen to over and over again. There is a lot of practical philosophy embedded in and between the lines, so listen to it all. Show notes and links for this episode can be found at www.fourhourworkweek.com/podcast.
