Zara Anishanslin is an American historian and author specializing in early American history, material culture, and the visual and intellectual worlds of the eighteenth century. She is the author of The Painter’s Fire: A Forgotten History of the Artists Who Championed the American Revolution (Harvard University Press, 2025), which uncovers the overlooked contributions of artists and artisans to the revolutionary cause through their creative and political work. Anishanslin is also known for her earlier book Portrait of a Woman in Silk: Hidden Histories of the British Atlantic World (2016), and she serves as an associate professor at the University of Delaware, where she teaches history and art history.
