Amber Hunt says she is a journalist first, and a podcaster second, but this series from The Cincinnati Enquirer shows what true crime reporting in podcast form can look like. Well worth a listen

Atlanta Monster / Monster: The Zodiac Killer

From Tenderfoot TV and HowStuffWorks, 'Monster: The Zodiac Killer' dives into one of the most notorious, unsolved serial killing sprees in history. Despite sketches, cyphers and taunting letters to the press, the question still remains: who is the Zodiac? While you're here, don't forget to listen to Season 1, 'Atlanta Monster', which tells the true story of one of Atlanta’s darkest secrets, almost 40 years later.

As someone who knew nothing about this case, it was an interesting look into a period where a crime shocked a city, a state, and a country, that lead to an unsure conviction. Plays it well and being empathetic to the convicted without being sympathetic or pleading for his release.

Behind the Bastards

There’s a reason the History Channel has produced hundreds of documentaries about Hitler but only a few about Dwight D. Eisenhower. Bad guys (and gals) are eternally fascinating. Behind the Bastards dives in past the Cliffs Notes of the worst humans in history and exposes the bizarre realities of their lives. Listeners will learn about the young adult novels that helped Hitler form his monstrous ideology, the founder of Blackwater’s insane quest to build his own Air Force, the bizarre lives of the sons and daughters of dictators and Saddam Hussein’s side career as a trashy romance novelist.

Most people in history are awful, this podcast picks the biggest bastards and deep-dives on them. Robert Evans (formerly of Cracked) is a great host who has converted his [possibly] unhealthy obsession with the worst parts of history into a fantastic podcast.

Maximum Fun's first scripted show was a mixed bag of good and great moments. Cutting at times, and a bit flat at others, overall this was a fun radio drama for the modern audience.
