  1. Its episode eleven and its time to get your bike set-up for the winter months. I chat with Kieran and Louis, founders of Mech Monkey about those very things. I ran into the guys at the Mourne 24hr race at Castlewellan, got chatting and they very kindly agreed to come onto the show. We hooked-up at their workshop/store in Belfast (and what a cool workshop it is) on a Friday evening to talk bike maintenance, set-up, tyre pressures and a load of other stuff bike related. The guys have a long and successful background in the bike maintenance world and certainly know their stuff. It was great to get them on the show and spend some time with them in their workshop.

  2. In todays episode number Twenty Five we are talking to James Wilson, owner and founder of Pedalling Innovations. We will be talking with James about why he strongly believes you should be using flat pedals over clipless. James has done lots of his own research into the pedalling stroke and has come to the conclusion that clipless is not the way to go. James provides us with his evidence on the podcast of what he has found during his research and what his conclusions are regarding the use of flat vs. clipless pedals. But James also believes that the flat pedals available on the market at this time are also not great at helping the pedal stroke, so James made the decision to create, design and produce his own pedal, the 'Catalyst Pedal'. So why is this better? You will find out all on the podcast.

  3. Do you want to train better, race better, eat better and live better? If you want to be brave and do epic shit this is the episode for you. Sonya Looney does all of the above and tries to motivate everyone as she goes. I was stoked to get Sonya on the show not only because she is a very successful professional endurance racer, fellow podcaster and public speaker but because her message is so inspiring and she truly does want to help people live better and enjoy life to the full. We are all so consumed today with work, social media and making ends meet that a lot of us don't take the time to do what we love or spend time with people we love. Sonya has made changes throughout her life to be able to do what she loves and has not only made it work through the world of mountain biking but has also been very successful at it. Sonya tells us her story from how she started mountain biking, almost by chance to what epic races she has planned for the near future.

  6. It is my pleasure to have Alastair Beckett on the show for episode number Thirty Six. Alastair is a major reason why the bike brand Nukeproof is where it is today and has become so successful. Nukeproof dawns riders like world champion, Sam Hill and Kelan Grant, to name but a few. Alastair has not only been a driving force behind the design of the Nukeproof brand as Design Engineer but also took on the challenge of becoming Brand Manager. We chat to Alastair about the rise of Nukeproof, working for CRC (Chain Reaction Cycles) and a load more great stuff. Alastair had shall we say, a slightly different route into the mountain bike industry. He has done everything from telesales to World Cup mechanic to brand designer and manager. As a young mountain biker and BMX rider he never really knew what he wanted to do as a career. But when a small mistake at school (this is awesome) made him make a very fast decision he quickly found a passion and a direction for a successful career all based round his love for mountain biking. Sorry, but you will have to listen to the podcast to hear about that school mistake!

  7. In episode number Twenty Two we are talking to Kelan Grant about winning the Redbull Foxhunt, what that has done for his racing career, his new CRC Mavic signing and racing on the same team as EWS World Champ Sam Hill. This has been a massive twelve months for Kelan. Over the last year he has won many races including the Redbull Foxhunt, this qualifying Megavalanche heat, he is the Irish National Enduro Champion and has got a new signing to the CRC Mavic Team that will see him partner up with current 2017 EWS World Champion, Sam Hill. It was awesome to get Kelan on the podcast, we chat about everything from how he got started to overcoming injuries to his up coming year with a new race team. It is an exciting time for this young man from Omagh.

  8. Todays Guest Matt Mooney, Founder and Owner of MTB Fitness. We chat with Matt about how being that little bit more pacific in the gym can help you on the trails and how nutrition and mind-set can help even the weekend warrior. On episode Sixty Three we are chatting to Matt about his 12 week MTB training programme, which has been bought in over 23 countries and is a great way to help you get fitter, feel better and be faster on your rides. We chat about how Matt after many years of being a Personal Trainer found his passion again for mountain biking and seen a hole in the market for a more pacific mountain bike training programme. And this is when MTB Fitness was born. Matt is very knowledgeable in how training can help you in a load of different areas of your daily life and how getting your butt into the gym a few times a week can help your riding. We chat about what his 12 week MTB programme consists of, how it works, equipment you will require (which is not a lot) and how much time you will require in the gym to help on the trails. We also delve into nutrition, mind-set and injury recovery.

  9. On episode Forty Three we are chatting with Alex Holowko about everything enduro race related, from how to register to how to keep mental focus. Alex has been racing on the down hill scene since a young age but has now set his focus on the enduro scene. Alex is currently travelling around Europe in his motorhome with his girlfriend, Amanda Dexter aka WolfGirlMtb (check out episode 41 here) filming for their YouTube channel, Wolfpack Adventures, racing and chasing the Enduro World Series. We caught up and got Alex's insights into everything you need to know about entering an enduro, how to be best prepared, compete and much more. I was asked by a number of our listeners about how to best go about preparing yourself for racing in an enduro, mainly of the back of a few of our other interviews regarding racing (see below). So when I had Amanda on the show it dawned on me that Alex would be the perfect person to ask. So a few days later Alex was kind enough to take time out of their travelling schedule and share his thoughts and experience about what we should be thinking about when taking that jump into the exciting world of enduro racing.

  10. On episode Seventy I revisit Kieran and Louis from Mech Monkey to answer my questions on ‘Why Should You Buy A New Bike?’. I often get asked what my best episode has been. This is a very difficult question to answer because of time lines etc. So I thought I would revisit one of the best for this weeks episode and I also think it is a very relevant episode for the start of the year, as we are all looking forward to the spring and possibly purchasing a new bike. I originally recorded this episode with Louis and Kieran back in March 2018 (episode 029) but it is still very relevant for today. Enjoy!

  12. On todays episode and number Eighty Three we are chatting to Andrew Coburn about winning the Mountain Bike NI Scout Leader Award, staying stoked on the trails and how mountain biking changed Andrew’s life for the better. Plus a few funny stories from when Andrew started mountain biking. When reading through the annual email sent from Mountain Bike NI regarding the yearly award winners (these are awards voted by riders for things like best trail, best MTB accommodation, best MTB cafe etc...etc.) I discovered that the Scout Leader Award had been won this year by Andrew. I was stoked to hear this because Andrew is in love with mountain biking and if anybody deserves the award it is Andrew. I have never hit the local trails with Andrew but I knew he was somewhat of a character and would be a great guy to have a chat with and get on the podcast. After all, its characters like Andrew that make this mountain bike hobby so much fun and when these guys are around, there never seems to be a dull moment. This is not so much an episode but a story of how having an interest, a social group of friends and an awesome community around you can help change your life forever.
