About This List

Not all true crime pods are the same, some are single voice 3rd person, some are two handed conversations, some are completely scripted some are freeballing ... regardless of style, here are my favourites
  1. Utilizes narrative storytelling, archival audio, and immersive soundscapes to explore true stories of white-collar criminals, con artists, and corporate evil. From corruption and fraud to Ponzi schemes and environmental disasters, these financially motivated crimes have shaped our world in unimaginable ways. All in the name of greed.
  2. Welcome to Crimetown, a series produced by Marc Smerling and Zac Stuart-Pontier in partnership with Gimlet Media. Each season, we investigate the culture of crime in a different city. In Season 2, Crimetown heads to the heart of the Rust Belt: Detroit, Michigan. From its heyday as Motor City to its rebirth as the Brooklyn of the Midwest, Detroit’s history reflects a series of issues that strike at the heart of American identity: race, poverty, policing, loss of industry, the war on drugs, and our universal desire for a savior. Detroit’s a tough town, and its residents are even tougher. They’ve weathered riots, a drug epidemic, political scandal, and innumerable other hardships, but they’re still here—and they have stories to tell.

  3. Criminal is a podcast about crime. Not so much the "if it bleeds, it leads," kind of crime. Something a little more complex. Stories of people who've done wrong, been wronged, and/or gotten caught somewhere in the middle. We're a proud member of Radiotopia, from PRX, a curated network of extraordinary, story-driven shows. Learn more at radiotopia.fm.
  4. We’re at our most vulnerable when we go to our doctors. We trust the person at the other end of that scalpel. We trust the hospital. We trust the system.Christopher Duntsch was a neurosurgeon who radiated confidence. He claimed he was the best in Dallas. If you had back pain, and had tried everything else, Dr. Duntsch could give you the spine surgery that would take your pain away. But soon his patients started to experience complications, and the system failed to protect them. Which begs the question: who - or what - is that system meant to protect? From Wondery, the network behind the hit podcast Dirty John, DR. DEATH is a story about a charming surgeon, 33 patients and a spineless system. Reported and hosted by Laura Beil.
  5. Based on the files of the lawyers who freed them, Wrongful Conviction features interviews with men and women who have spent decades in prison for crimes they did not commit – some of them had even been sentenced to death. These are their stories.

Jason is a co-founder of The Innocence Project in the US which specialises in helping to gain freedom for those unfairly and wrongfully convicted of serious crimes. Usually just Jason and the exoneree in a free flowing conversation about how the unfortunate became convicted, and finally freed. So its a redemption story. CAUTION: Some of the stories of Law Enforcement, Prosecutorial and Judicial misconduct are jaw dropping and will make you blood boil as to how police and DA's KNOWINGLY send a guy (mostly) away for decades whilst the real perpetrator remains free to continue killing/raping .... One common thread is the clear sense that the exoneree had had to make peace with what happened to them and almost to man, instead of being filled with anger and rage, are in a zen like state and only talk about being happy to be free and and focused on making whatever time they have left on earth count. Several of these cases have moved me to tears. A VERY powerful pod. Start with S01 Eo4 the absolutely INSANE convictions of two people on opposite sides of the planet. Sunny Jacobs, a woman in Florida and Peter Pringle in the UK. Their lives converge after their respective exonerations. Sadly Sunny's innocent boyfriend was wrongfully executed in 1981 by electric chair under horrific circumstances. Many believe Jesse's botched execution was the inspiration for similar scene in Stephen King's book/movie The Free Mile. This ep is titled 'Love is Better than Revenge' and would bring a tear to a glass eye. Don't miss it
  6. Lyn and Chris Dawson appear to have the perfect marriage. He's a star footballer and popular high school teacher. She's a devoted wife and mother. They share a beautiful home above Sydney's northern beaches. But when Lyn goes missing, dark secrets are buried. This is no fairytale, but a sordid story of strangely close twin brothers, teenage student lovers, and probable murder. The Australian's Hedley Thomas digs deep into a cold case which has been unsolved for 36 years, uncovering startling new evidence.

  7. Murder, infidelity, suicide, arson, addiction, religious cults, drug trafficking; this podcast explores the alleged true crime antics and criminal connections of musicians we love like Jerry Lee Lewis, the Rolling Stones, XXXTentacion, Cardi B, the Grateful Dead, Tupac, Biggie, Amy Winehouse, Bob Marley and more. Why? Because real rock stars are more like feral, narcissistic animals than functioning members of society and that is precisely what makes them so damn entertaining. If you love true crime and you love music, you will love this award winning podcast. Disgraceland is a scripted, single voice narrative storytelling podcast that melds music, true crime, history and transgressive fiction. Disgraceland is not a journalistic podcast. It is an entertainment podcast inspired by true events. Certain dialogue and scenes are sometimes fictionalized for dramatic purposes as they are in most scripted entertainment mediums based on true events. Sources for each episode are available at disgracelandpod.com.
