About This List

Podcast Brunch Club is like book club, but for podcasts. We have 70+ in-person chapters across 6 continents. Every month, we put together a thematic podcast playlist. The March 2020 theme is "Happiness." Join us: https://podcastbrunchclub.com/how-it-works/
  1. Technology allows us to bank, shop and dine without talking to another human, but what toll is this taking on our happiness? The inventor of the ATM and the Talking Heads singer David Byrne join Dr Laurie Santos to explore the ways in which talking to strangers can bring us all genuine joy.  For an even deeper dive into the research we talk about in the show visit https://www.happinesslab.fm/  Learn more about your ad choices. 2. We gave our Happiness Guinea Pig a mission: Do five random acts of kindness in one day.
  3. Professional artists aren't the only people who can make art. This episode, learn how to weave art into your everyday life. Because whether you're doodling, making pottery or embroidering, creating art is good for you and your health.
  4. In this interview, we hear from Dr. Ha Vinh Tho, the Program Development Coordinator of the Gross National Happiness Centre in Bhutan. Tho is also the founder and chairman of Eurasia Foundation, a humanitarian NGO, a visiting fellow at several universities and a Buddhist teacher in the Tradition of Vietnamese Zen Buddhism, who was ordained by Thich Nhat Hanh. We speak about the history and meaning of the Gross National Happiness Index and how it can be a better index for measuring happiness, health, and wellbeing in a country. For more information, visit Dr. Tho's blog and Bhutan's Gross National Happiness website.
  5. The Happiness Industry: Laurie Taylor talks to Will Davies, Professor in Politics at Goldsmiths, University of London, who asks why policy makers have become increasingly focused on measuring happiness. Also, 'wellness syndrome': Andre Spicer, Professor of Organisational Behaviour at City University, argues that visions of positive social change have been replaced by a focus on individual well-being. They're joined by Laura Hyman, Senior Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Portsmouth. Revised repeat. Producer: Jayne Egerton

To honor Andi and her contribution to PBC, we dedicated our March 2020 listening list on Happiness to her. In this episode, we talk to Andi about her life, her legacy, and her thoughts about happiness. Get involved in the podcast discussion! Find out how Podcast Brunch Club works.
