Political correctness is a sad factor; opinions are not respected and Cancel Culture is impacting freedom of Speech. Another factor is external interference from foreign nations/adversaries which I find hilarious considering that the USA and other global players in this world have been interfering with other countries elections and toppling their elected governments.
