The Disney Parks Icons: The Story Behind Some of the Best-Known Disney "Wienies"Every Disney Park has its iconic symbol. These are often the most well know images associated with the parks. In most cases, the icon is something that you can see as soon as you enter the park. Walt Disney called these "wienies." Listen to the episode to hear the reason why. The idea was that the wienie or icon should be something that would draw guests further into the park -- towards the icon itself. In Episode 41 of 1923 Main Street: The Disney Travel Podcast, we take a closer look at the Disney Parks icons at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort. Interestingly, not all icons are created equal and some have very interesting pasts. We cover it all in this fun-filled podcast episode where you'll gain a new perspective on some of the most famous Disney Parks landmarks. Likes, Dislikes and Future Hopes for Disney's Polynesian Village ResortDisney's Polynesian Village Resort is a classic original Walt Disney World hotel. So what's great about it? What's not so great about it? And what should we hope to see in the future? Disney has announced that the Polynesian is undergoing a (much needed) refurbishment and is expected to reopen in the summer of 2021. The refurbishment will cover guest rooms and the Great Ceremonial House (the main lobby) and will include themes, colors and textures from the Pacific Islands and Moana theming. Can Disney's Polynesian Village Resort Return to its Former Glory? The questions remain, however, will this be enough to help a sorely aging property return to its former glory?Join us as we discuss Disney's Polynesian Village Resort in its current state, including what we like about it, what we don't like about it and what we hope to see once the refurbishment is completed in 2021. With such a big following, hopefully Disney will do it right and give the property some much needed TLC.Thank You for Listening to the Disney Travel PodcastThank you very much for listening to this episode, Amelia and I hope that you enjoyed it. Find Out What Type of Disney Traveler You Are and How it Affects Your Disney Travel DNAThere are six types of Disney travelers at Walt Disney World. Your Disney Travel DNA is your unique mix of these six Disney traveler types. In this interactive episode of 1923 Main Street: The Daddy Daughter Disney Travel Podcast, we take you through the six types of Walt Disney World traveler, so that you can self assess to determine your unique mix of Disney Travel DNA.Why It's Important to Know Your Disney Travel DNASome of the Disney travel types are very different from one another, so it can make a difference if two people in a travel group have very different Disney travel DNA profiles. The Six Types of Walt Disney World Travelers1. The Park Buster the most classic of all Disney Traveler types. Disney Parks fanatic.  Would love to do all four Walt Disney World Parks in one day.  Doesn't mind the crowds, can stand waiting in line (to some degree) and loves being inside Disney Parks. Even on busy park days, the Park Buster will be in his or her element, likely having a few tricks up their sleeve to work through the crowds or knowing when to call it a day and tap out before things get too crazy.  high energy and if you can keep up with them, they’ll probably guide you through a very fun  2. The Disney Planner loves to plan and believes a well-planned Disney vacation leads to a successful Disney vacation. is happiest when all meals and all FastPasses are locked in as early as Disney allows them to do so.  They live with their My Disney Experience app by their side and love the comfort of knowing exactly what is going to happen this afternoon, tomorrow and the next day.  doesn’t enjoy leaving things to chance or having any unscheduled time (unless they planned for having unscheduled time).  If someone wants to change any plans on the fly, this will cause great stress for the Disney Planner.  But secretly they'll enjoy the challenge of having to rejig their carefully-planned itinerary and will find great accomplishment when they come up with a new plan that resets things back into some sense of order. Most travel groups will benefit from having a Disney Planner.  3. The Carefree Disney Traveler is relaxed about how they approach their Disney vacation. takes things as they come and doesn’t get too stressed about things that don’t go as planned If a ride is down, or they miss a reservation, no worries.  is easygoing and will usually be able to enjoy themselves no matter what happens. the most rare of all Disney Traveler types, but they can have a great calming affect on those around them  so it's nice to have a Carefree Disney Traveler in your group. 4. The Disney Historian loves soaking up all of the Disney history that surrounds them. notices the small details that most travelers miss.  advance research on what to watch for and inspiration behind rides, attractions and Imagineering throughout the Disney Parks and Resorts.  great appreciation for how it all ties together -- loves the historical tours.  Hidden Mickeys to windows on Main Street, the Historian views it as a significant part of the magic. quite at home wandering Disney Parks with a camera and an eye for detail and never stepping on a ride.  5. The Luxury Disney Traveler loves the finer side of Disney travel  prefer to experience Disney as part of a VIP Tour, or other exclusive level of Disney service. loves any pay-for-play opportunity and prefers all types of VIP Walt Disney World.  sees the value in opportunities to pay for magical extras on their Disney vacation.  at home paying for things that most other Disney travelers don’t know about or don't budget for.  6. The Disney Adventurer likes to chart their own path  discovers things the average Disney traveler isn’t even aware of.  has a bit of Disney Planner in them, but not to the point of becoming obsessive about it.  want to know the off-the-beaten-track side of Disney and go where the crowds usually don’t. would rather spend time surfing in Typhoon Lagoon at 6:45 a.m. than rushing off to a park.  ideal Walt Disney World vacation would include archery at Fort Wilderness, hot air balloon ride at Disney Springs, trail rides, Chip'n'Dale campfire show etc. How to Determine Your Disney Travel DNAListen to the full episode as we explain how to determine your unique Disney Travel DNA. What Does the Future Hold for Walt Disney World Vacation Planning? With all that's happening in Disney Parks these days and with the Disney Genie planning app supposedly coming our way (possibly later in 2020 or even 2021), what will the Walt Disney World vacation planning process be like and how will it be different?Walt Disney World Vacation Planning will Never Be the SameAs Disney explores new ways to manage FastPasses, dining reservations and more, several factors are impacting how the entire Disney World vacation planning process will change (and hopefully progress) in the months ahead. Covid-19 summer rules at Disney Parks are affecting Disney's FastPass+ system and dining reservations (and more) and the impending release of the all-new Disney Genie planning app is on the horizon for release in later 2020 (although this date may no longer be in play). Plus, the Park Pass has now been launched, but will this be only temporary? With all of these factors in play, one thing we know for sure is that the current mottled process of trying to plan a Walt Disney World vacation is going to change (and hopefully for the better). The current system can be very stressful, which is something that needs to be addressed as Disney looks for ways to enhance the overall guest experience.Pay for Play at Walt Disney WorldOne thing that we think may become even more prominent is the pay for play model. We expect to Walt Disney World joining other theme parks (include other resorts of their own) in offering more paid upgrade options to get more FastPasses, extra access to events and so on. Where do we stand on pay for play? Listen to the show to hear our views. How Will the Walt Disney World Vacation Planning Process be Different? In Episode 26 of our Disney Travel Podcast, we take a look at what the future may hold for Walt Disney World vacation planning and how the process may be drastically different than it is today.  Will the Disney vacation planning process be better or worse?  Will travel agents still have a prominent role in planning Walt Disney World vacations?  Will the Disney Genie app fill the needs of all types of Disney travelers? Join us for a look ahead at what the planning process might be like and what we hope to see as frequent vacationers to Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. As promised in the episode, we have included a link to the official Disney announcement for the Disney Genie app from August 2019.Amelia and I Thank You for ListeningThank you very much for listening to this episode, Amelia and I hope that you enjoyed it.
