RATING
I was pretty exited at the thought of this podcast. I love me a good musical and I'm a big fan of Jonathan Groff. Unfortunately, I felt like I just never really got into it. I think the voice acting and sound quality was fantastic and overall, I liked the characters and plot. I thought the music itself was iffy, alright to hear at the time but nothing I would listen to later. While I liked the characters, I found I wasn't really rooting for either of them and I found by the end, I was glad it was over with. Not a bad podcast, just didn't live up to what I thought it could be.
I'm not too big on romance Or musicals for that matter, so that might be why I never really got into this. I did like the concept and the music (our word is my favourite) though and the production quality is very good. Unfortunately I didn't root for any of the characters at all and I found her to be pretty unlikeable in general (this has nothing to do with the acting which is outstanding). Maybe I didn't understand her backstory enough? All I got was that her parents were rich and so she never faced consequences. Which is why her ex is supposed to forgive her for lying about everything. That being said it's been a year since I listened to the podcast and not just the soundtrack. So take this review with a grain of salt and listen for yourself
Amazing attempt at a concept with strong writing, good songs, and a duck.Might be outdone but other attempts (that build off of this one, so you know, there's that), but for now, a must listen.
it was fun! loved the songs, they were so good. judith was kinda annoying though….
I love musicals and podcasts. This was a little hard to get into the sort of found footage format ("the record") but I get how it worked. The music is awesome, it really sticks with you. The acting is great, the characters as written have huge flaws that made me give this only 4 stars. I don't want to give away spoilers but at the end, I was annoyed with them both for their life choices. I'll listen to it again a few times and see if I forgive either of them. I've changed my rating. I keep coming back so there is definitely something about this podcast. The songs are great. I'm so mad at both of them by the second half of the show BUT, they're flawed, they're human, and I love them for it.
Super fun and well written, amazing acting
This Charming and witty musical of 2 lovebirds facing trust issues despite their love towards each other, surprised me! How did the producers pull it out? I don’t think I came across any other show/podcast that managed to successfully produce such a show. Personally, I’m not a fan of musicals and without any virtual effects that would have attempted to distract me, I was blown away. This is probably one of the few podcast shows that could be re-listened annually without a hint of boredom!
While the 3rd act wasn’t my favorite I overall loved this podcast. Top notch quality and songs. I love Jonathan Groff so much and he’s fantastic in this. Jessie Shelton is also great and brings so much personality to her character.
Short, sweet story about a couple trying to get back to where they were. The dialogue is very good, sometimes sad, sometimes funny, and the songs are enjoyable. Not WOW, but definitely worth a listen.
A story about failed relationships. The wife character is especially interesting and the dialogue, production, and performances are pretty strong. Most of the songs are great, especially in the first two parts, and the drama is interesting. It has a bit of an open ending.
The continuously high ratings for 36 Questions are not overblown -- this podcast musical deserves it. I still hum some of the songs, and still cry at the end of episode 2. In a world where many things are falling apart, 36 Questions made impact with the story of a woman who is trying to keep her piece of the world together.
Up until the midpoint of the final episode, I was really enjoying this. But it felt like the main lesson got muddled at the end.
A musical audio drama that is very easy to binge listen on a long car journey. Excellent.
36 Questions is an entirely unique musical that I find myself constantly coming back and listening to over and over again! It tells the story of an estranged couple trying to navigate their relationship by going back to the basics that brought them together to begin with. Jonathan Groff and Jessie Shelton are utterly spectacular and make this show truly one to remember!
