Hopes for a speedy recovery from COVID-19 in South Africa have been damped somewhat after health minister Zweli Mkhize said that it would suspend the AstraZeneca formula of the vaccine. The sudden U-turn comes after disappointing data showed the jab provided minimal protection against some cases of the South African variant of the Coronavirus. We hear from Professor Mosa Moshabela, Dean of the School of Nursing and Public Health at the University of KwaZulu Natal, who says that although other alternatives to the AstraZeneca jab are available, there may still be applications for it in South Africa.
