Produced by Heard Not Seen Media, Inc. and ImaginePodcasting.com Welcome. And today we're talking about the currency of health and we're joined by Emma Johnson in EFT trainer, mentor, tapping into wealth coach. And what we're focusing on today is the impact that money has on our health. I'm so excited about this podcast today because money does have a big impact on our health and the types of things that we're going to be covering today are the stress response to money. The micro retraumatization. How many ties into all this are reactive thoughts and emotions that we then hold within our bodies. And then the impact that this has on our nervous system and the immune system. And then what we're gonna wrap up with today is we're going to wrap up with a tapping experience. In this episode of Alternative Health Tools, we learn that CranioSacral Therapy is a potential antidote to several ailments that are unfortunately trending as a result of the stresses and strains of the Covid Era.  “I see a lot of people with chronic pain, headache, facial pain, neck pain, back pain, stress,” says Barbara DeVito, a San Diego-based therapist. “I see three times as much anxiety, depression, and sleep problems than I have in the past. And I do believe it has to do with what people are going through right now — lots of fear. And that can set in the body.”  CranioSacral Therapy addresses such complaints through gentle manipulation that releases restrictions in the soft tissues that surround the central nervous system. “The body and the mind work together,” says DeVito. “Once the mind is relaxed, the body starts relaxing. Once the body is relaxed, the mind starts relaxing.” The primary area of focus in CST is from the shoulders up. “There's a lot of work on their head and in the occiput [back of the head], and you’re basically lifting up and helping that compression to kind of lift.” DeVito, who’s also a licensed nutritionist and massage, Reiki, and yoga therapist, takes a holistic approach to her practice. One of her clients had suffered chronic headaches for 15 years. “Within three months of craniosacral, his headaches were disappearing.  He was working on cars and learned that the way he used his shoulders, was part of the problem. And he changed this habit.” CST is also applicable to conditions like TMJ, and produces good results in treating pediatric conditions, like autism, torticollis, and even colic. In this episode, co-hosts John, Lisa, and Kim are sharing strategies for coping with pandemic fatigue, along with Stephanie Murphy, an art therapist. The crew came up with several good ideas and phrased them beautifully. Here are some key takeaways: Depression could be caused by the lack of future projection. So make plans for how you’re going to celebrate when it’s over. Create wholesome routines. John, in California, takes a walk-and-talk every morning with Stephanie, who’s in Santa Fe. They get the benefits of relationships, exercise, nature, and conversation. Walking a dog has similar health/mental health benefits. But even if you don’t have a dog, routinely take walks. Create family Zoom meetups. Play games. Laugh. Have a dance party, complete with costumes. Too much screen time creating eyestrain and causing headaches? Get some blue-light filter glasses. Do whatever it is that you consider a spiritual practice. Meditations. Deep breathing exercises. Yoga. Journaling.  Look or sit outside. Check out the birds.  CONNECT WITH SOMETHING BIGGER THAN YOURSELF. Angry? Make angry art! Family tension? Throw a family tantrum! Write a love letter to yourself. You deserve it. Share your own strategies with the Alternative Health Tools community by sending an email to one of the hosts, or Stephanie. When the collective mind, body, and spirit are under siege by a microscopic virus, individuals are prone to fear, anxiety, and stress - all of which work to the virus’s advantage by suppressing the immune system. According to Qigong teacher Fay McGrew, her practice addresses key physiological and emotional issues that enhance people's abilities to deal with the onslaught of our unseen enemy.  “Qigong Is not just an exercise,” says McGrew. It includes mindfulness meditation, nutrition, and various aspects of Chinese medicine, including acupressure. And because the exercises involved are low-impact, the practice is accessible regardless of age or physical condition. McGrew says Qigong is effective in treating veterans suffering from PTSD or even brain injuries. Qigong is well suited for the current era because of its emphasis on diaphragmatic breathing. “That's the number one thing is for relaxing our lungs, getting enough oxygen. If we do get COVID, we know it hits the lungs.”  The breathing exercises also promote general nervous system relaxation, which helps to moderate the harmful effects of negative emotions. McGrew describes what she calls a matrix of organs and related emotions that are specifically addressed by particular exercises and practices. During the episode, McGrew walks us through a brief guided exercise that provides an introduction to the practice. She’s based in the San Diego area, and offers classes and sessions online. In these times of global pandemic, learning about Alternative Health Tools just might be more important than ever before. Conventional medicine obviously does not have all the answers to the mental and physical health issues and challenges posed by the Coronavirus.  With the recent addition of Kim Shea, who joins John Biethan and Lisa Victoria as a co-host, the Alternative Health Tools team expands its reach to wellness practitioners we haven’t heard from over the first 100-plus episodes.  In this, the first meeting of the minds between Kim and Lisa, we learn about the work they’re doing and what impact they hope to have on listeners. Kim calls herself a coach for life’s third period, and we heard from her about that in Episode 104. Lisa is an intuitive health coach and her ultimate goal going forward is “inspiring people to think and feel differently about who they are, to be able to go out into the world and find that true voice and that true passion and not be held back and playing small.” Stay tuned to Lisa’s upcoming episodes to learn how to accomplish such lofty goals in times of physical distancing. Spoiler alert: Stress management is an important piece of the puzzle. Based in the UK, which is no stranger to the ravages of the virus and the psychological toll of physical distancing, Lisa shares Kim’s concerns about mental health issues in society in general. “There's a lot of mental and physical anxiety so we're looking to support companies and reintegrating people and transitioning them back into the workplace.”   For his part, John has been taking Relationship by Design courses, and his big takeaway is this: “I think compassion right now is a really important attribute to develop if you don't have it, and to understand more thoroughly if you do. So I'd like to see those conversations evolve and come about in alternative health tools for 2021.” Mentions:  Relationshipbydesign.com Kim’s website: RetirementPurposeCoach.com Contact Us Alternative Health Tools You can find us on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, and anywhere else you get your podcasts. Leea Pronovost suffered a near-death experience that awakened her, in middle age, to healing modalities that may sound exotic to some: Crystal Reiki, Energy Mastery, and Shamanic Healing. But her practice comes into focus as she walks host Kim Shea through a guided meditation. By the end of this session, it sounds like Kim is packing her psychic baggage to go on a Shamanic Journey with Leea. Perhaps you will be, too. Trauma, of course, is usually the trigger for the spiritual healing quest, and Leea calls herself a specialist in “soul retrieval.” “When you can't deal with the trauma,” she says, “that piece of your soul goes missing, or you’re creating a way to be because of that trauma. In soul retrieval, we basically go back and see what caused that trauma and then go in and tear up that contract that we created, and create a new contract with ourselves. “In Shamanism,” Leea says, “it isn't so much that the shaman is a healer, but the shaman holds space for you to heal yourself.” Leea’s repertoire includes deep dives into the Art of Dreaming, but in case this sounds like psychotherapy by any other name, well, stay tuned. Her practices include out-of-body experiences, energy-field work, and pan-cultural shamanism. “Whether it's North American, South American, Australian Aborigine, up in Canada, or Mongolia, dreaming is always trying to leave us connected to our ancestors, to the spirit of the plants, to Mother Earth. The dream world is just one way to get into the spirit realm. … Shamanic Journeying and meditation are our doorways to that world as well. Once in the spirit world, you can manipulate the energy fields … for achieving a healing of that person's maladies.” Leea sites a couple of key influencers: Carlos Castenada Barbara Brennan Contact Leea Pronovost Name: Leea Pronovost, Healer Website: www.LightSpiritMedicine.com Email: Leea.Pronovost@LightSpiritMedicine.com Contact Us Alternative Health Tools You can find us on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, and anywhere else you get your podcasts. Retirement ain’t what it used to be. Because we live longer, it lasts longer, and Baby Boomers are wired to remain active and engaged well after their careers are over. There’s no map for this new stage of life, and that’s where Kim Shea comes in. Her business is called Aging Purposefully, and she calls herself a retirement coach and a purposeful living coach. “My goal,” she says, “is to help people figure out how they can best spend their retirement years doing what it is that makes him feel like they have a reason to still be here every day.”  “My ideal client would be somebody who's 55 or 60 and still has about five years left before they're ready to retire because then we can start to explore some things like what their hobbies are, where they want to live, what their main interests are so that when they do actually retire, it's a very smooth transition.” That could mean laying the groundwork for a side-gig in semi-retirement. Or digging deep to assess what your spiritual or social or intellectual needs are, and planning to fulfill them in the absence of the structure that a job provides.  Of course, entering that stage of life, it’s important to understand your health situation and plan to maintain fitness and wellness. In addition to private coaching sessions, Shea offers webinars on various aspects of purposeful retirement, which are available through her website. Host Lisa Victoria talks with Dr. Vani Moodley, an Ayurvedic practitioner based in England. She provides a fascinating overview of this holistic healing practice, which is rooted in ancient Indian wisdom and complements modern Western medicine.  The emphasis in Ayurvedic medicine is on detailed, holistic diagnosis, mainly of the pulse, tongue, and iris. Based on results, tailor-made treatment plans are designed to suit each individual's needs and body type, involving diet, cleanses, nutrition, yoga, meditation, and supplements. Dr. Moodley treats a wide variety of diseases and conditions and recommends Ayurveda even for those who feel healthy, as preventative medicine that promotes longevity and quality of life. “It's about putting those building blocks in place now,” she says, “to make sure we live long and healthy rather than long and unhealthy.” She refers in the interview to original Ayurvedic medical texts, which are still used in the contemporary study of this ancient practice.  Remarkably, Dr. Moodley is able to conduct consultations and recommend treatments online, from her base in England. Jan Tucker is a certified trainer and healer in the Spring Forest Qigong lineage. She came to the art of qigong, a movement practice similar to tai chi, to treat her chronic bronchitis and a failing immune system. Her Chinese master said, “This works like acupuncture without the needles. … it works with universal love energy.” The healing takes place by removing blockages in the human energy system and aligning with natural yin-yang dynamics. Jan applies the healing touch manually, and also works with patients remotely, with success. Qigong addresses emotional and mental health issues, like stress, as well as physical ailments and conditions.  By boosting the immune system, she says it can help with the threat posed by the coronavirus pandemic. “If you believe in qigong, it works. And if you don't believe in it, it works anyway … because we're working with universal laws here.” Is qigong right for you? Jan asks her prospective clients these questions: Do you have a chronic and persistent illness? Are you highly motivated to conquer your health problems? Are you open to alternative health solutions that have stood the test of time for 5,000 years? Are you open to learning things about how "healing" energy works that Western medicine doesn't incorporate? Are you ready to commit yourself to make a major change in your life? If you said yes to all 5 questions above, schedule an exploratory call. We welcome you to the 100th episode of Alternative Health tools. Today we take a trip down health tools memory lane and introduce the hosts that made these 99 episodes possible. They’ll be sharing each of their favorite episodes and a little bit about why they choose those episodes. These were difficult choices when going through all 99 episodes, it became obvious that any of the episodes offer insights and gems of wisdom useful to anyone along the path of their health journey. Alternative Health Tools’s first episode was released on August 17, 2014, with Lisa Thorp hosting the show. Lisa Thorp took a much-needed break, and I took over hosting on December 2, 2015 - until meeting Lisa Victoria from the U.K. who hosted her first episode on August 23, 2019. Then on May 7, 2020, Lisa Victoria and I started alternating hosting duties effectively becoming “co-hosts” from across the pond of each other. In one episode, Lisa does an interview from the U.K. where she lives, and in the next episode, I host a conversation here in the San Diego area. Join Us for a LIVE Zoom Call with the Practitioners! Have you ever said something snarky, spiteful, unkind, or just plain thoughtless, to someone you love?  How did it go?  Did you get into a fight or hear a defensive reaction? Or worse. Perhaps you ended a relationship.  It happened to us and opened a door to greater intimacy. As Paul started to take lunch to his desk, Carol let fly this one: “So, do you like your computer better than your wife?”   The tone was accusatory, not inviting. As soon as Carol said it, she knew that it had come out sideways, inviting a fight rather than a joyful lunch together.  It was not aligned with her intention at all.   This is where she should have remembered the acronym WAIT, and asked herself “Why Am I Talking?”  After a few tense moments, while Paul maintained a stunned silence, Carol apologized for the snarky remark and then revealed some feelings she had not disclosed before – or even consciously recognized. She told Paul that she had expected him to join her, and felt rejected or abandoned when he took his food to his desk instead.   Anyone who has been in our 2-day workshop, Relationship: The Real Deal, knows the mischief that arises from unexpressed expectations. One person is disappointed and the other one feels blamed out of the blue. In our case, we had no agreement to eat our lunch together, just Carol’s uncommunicated expectation.    After communicating her (previously withheld) expectation, Carol could lovingly invite Paul to join her.  That’s all it took to restore our joy of being related.   By the way, Paul wasn’t abandoning Carol when he took lunch to his desk. It was just his habit  – what he’d been doing for decades before he met Carol.  The next time you hear yourself or another person making a sarcastic or biting crack, you could get curious rather than defensive. You might discover something new, and end up feeling closer than before the remark slipped out.   With love, Carol & Paul Contact Us Sandy & Lon Golnickwww.RelationshipByDesign.com 760-603-8343

John here from San Diego in the US. Lisa’s in the U.K. It’s my turn for an episode. I’ve been working with Lon and Sandy Golnick from Relationship By Design for about a year and a half. They know more about relationship than anyone I’ve ever met in my gazillion years studying human potential and development. So one of my favorites take-aways from this work is this: “You can’t fix a relationship - because it’s not broken. You probably just don’t know what a relationship is! As you become aware of what a relationship is, things simply clear up.” That’s refreshing. Doing their workshops, I found this to be absolutely useful and true. So in a short conversation here, I discovered that they’ve worked a lot with families and parents. What we bring you here today are insights into being a parent - and NOT parenting. In this episode, we explore different ways of healing the mind and body with Reiki, distance healing, journaling, practicing gratitude and mindfulness. Lindsay Banks “Having gone through my own spiritual awakening back in 2017 I now support others through theirs. My own awakening was triggered through the loss of my best friend to cancer, shortly followed by the collapse of my marriage. I didn’t felt like I was being true to me anymore. I had become emotionally numb to life. In order to get through it, I utilized every tool I had in my spiritual toolbox. I had read about mindfulness, meditation but wasn’t practicing it. I started to meditate, to connect with myself again. Speaking with Angels, using crystals, practicing Reiki on myself. I did what I could to get me through a difficult, dark time. And I did get through it. When I did I put these tools into a book so others could utilize them to help them on their path. A Gentle Hug for the Soul was born in Oct 2018.” Contact Lindsay Banks LindsayBanks.uk Twitter and IG @LindsayBanks111 Lindsay on Facebook Lindsay on YouTube  Contact Us Alternative Health Tools You can find us on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, and anywhere else you get your podcasts.
