Early in my computer programming career, which I’m thrilled to be past now, I had an employer tell me, “Your time is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.” Ultimately he was correct, but we both had very different interpretations of his maxim.

What he was trying to tell me was that my time was worth what he was willing to pay for it and that I needed to come to my senses and settle for what he was offering. What I realized in that moment was that I needed to find someone who would pay what I knew my time was worth.

A month later I was making 3x that hourly rate and doubled it again within 6 months on that same project.

On a different scale, this is the same process I went through with my IT firm during the 2 years that I doubled revenue while cutting my working hours by 80%.
