It seems that every year or so, a new infectious virus or disease emerges into our consciousness via media coverage and government warnings.  In recent years, we’ve gone from SARS to Swine Flu to Ebola… each we are told is a crisis level potential outbreak, planting pandemic fear into our collective minds.  We are conditioned through the entertainment industry to expect men in bio-hazard suits to carry us from our homes into a quarantine zone where we will be hopeless observers, watching everyone around us succumb to the virus.The latest scare being presented to us is that of the Zika virus, a mosquito borne virus that is particularly sinister, because it is purported to have devastating effects on pregnant women, causing them to give birth to children with horrible disabilities and deformities.  Surely we must do everything in our power to rid the planet of such an evil contagion, right?  The Centers for Disease Control would always be honest with us, right? They always have our best interests at heart….
