The Bear Lake Monster is one of the lesser known cryptids of the northwest. Thousands of visitors enjoy the bright blue waters of Bear Lake in Southeastern Idaho every year. Most of them have never heard the mysterious tales of a large strange animal, lurking in the depths. Bear Lake’s unique geography and isolation has led to interesting scientific discoveries and kept this story from the wider public. We sat down with Matthew Havertz, a documentary filmmaker who has made a feature length documentary on the history, science and personal stories surrounding the Bear Lake Monster.
