RATING
This is one of our absolute favorite history podcasts! We have learned so much through this show about people not often covered in history class. We highly recommend this podcast to anyone who wants to learn more about black history.
Binging the first couple episodes of this podcast and it is already an experience I will cherish for a long time. As a white male I have MUCH to learn, and recognize I know nothing. Eyeopening, thought provoking, intelligent and guided by the smooth wonderful voice of King Kurus to take you along on a journey through time. So far most episodes have focused around individuals themselves, how they impacted the world around them and history itself. Many are presented in "bite-size" pieces (20min or less), and are sprinkled with sound bites and well placed SFX to pull you into a full immersion experience. I'm a huge history lover and I am excited to learn more about the history of black people, seek to understand and celebrate the diversity of our world.Thank you so much for a great podcast!
A delightful show full of facts, fun and adventure
A great podcast that alternates between vivid narrative episodes and interviews with fascinating guests. While this show is by no means restricted to UK Black history, as a British person myself, I appreciate having the opportunity to broaden my understanding of British history. Despite growing up in the UK, I regrettably have very little knowledge of UK-specific Black history. At school I learnt a little bit about the US Civil Rights movement, but virtually nothing about the experience of people of colour in my own country, so I found the episode that featured an interview with Asquith Xavier's relatives particularly eye-opening.Also, as a Russophile, I did massively appreciate the episode on Russia's national poet, Alexander Pushkin.
While some info is based on credible sources. The creator of this podcast tends to fall into the snake oil salesman pitch of Afrocentrism. His podcasts on ancient historical figures such as imhotep have no connection whatsoever with the African diaspora. Imhotep and the Egyptians are north africans. The African diaspora originates in sub saharan west africa for example Nigeria, liberia etc etc.
