(An excerpt from Mr. Desmond’s Funny Holiday by authors unknown, act 3 scene 2. Connoisseurs of comedy will appreciate the unreliable narration and graphic violence.)
THE FUNNY MR. DESMOND helpfully sits at his little table in front of the MEAN OLD JUDGE. All the BUSY BODIES around do not appreciate his silly antics! His friendly but boring DEFENSE ATTORNEY is also here.
THE JUDGE (sternly): Mr. Desmond, we have heard a truly appalling case before you tonight. You have shown no sign of innocence, no remorse, no-
DESMOND: What do you call a pretend friend? What is a bird's real name? What's the difference between a song and a brushfire?
THE JUDGE: What?
DESMOND (excitedly): The answer ‘to hurt and cut and carve and grin!’ do you get it? Do you get the joke???
DESMOND laughs. Nobody else appreciates his good clever humor!
THE JUDGE, increasingly exasperated: Mister- this is a court of law! I will have you respect this courtroo-
THE DEFENCE: Your honor, if I may?
THE JUDGE: Proceed, although your client is already on very thin ice, let me remind you.
THE DEFENCE: Your honor, I'd like to tell you a joke.
THE JUDGE frantically tries to call security to ruin the fun, but it's too late. The Newly Cheerful DEFENCE, who has opened up as a more happy, self accepting person, cleverly tears the judges throat out with his teeth, all while whispering funny funny jokes. The BUSY BODIES panic and try to flee, but luckily MR. DESMOND draws his silly little knife to carve them senses of humor.
