In this episode of the Bombshell Business Podcast Amber Hurdle talks about how to handle both success and rejection throughout the execution of your media plan. This episode builds on Part 1, which taught you how to lay a foundation for a successful media relations effort, and Part 2, which taught you how to make it easy for the media to cover you.Build on Your Successes  -Use one media appearance to get another to showcase your media presence, topics that you are able to speak to, and-Work to create a variety of coverage through visual, print, audio, video, new media and traditional media, etc...-Use one testimonial to get another. Reviews of your product or service can serve as an additional tool to build your credibility for your potential customers and to the media. How to Deal with Rejection Grow thicker skin! You have no idea what is going on behind the scenes of any given media outlet. It can be a variety of things to include:-It’s the wrong timing-It’s the wrong audience-It’s the wrong market-You’re not a celebrity and they only cover celebritiesRemember, “no”s are free. (My favorite Lindsay-ism!) Don’t get your feelings hurt. Move on to the next outlet and build, build, build from there.Stay Humble and Hungry You are never going to be so important that you can come in with an attitude. Keep your humble britches on. The end.On Hiring a Publicist  It is not a magic bullet. Do your homework and hire the right fit for you, your industry and your audience. Be totally clear on your goals and plan so you can communicate that to your publicist and measure their effectiveness. (Go back and listen to Episode 39 to be sure this is done!)Publicists highly likely have media relationships you may not have, so they can pitch to someone who knows whoever they are pitching is a sure thing--and it has nothing to do with you at all!Hiring a publicist is an expense that won’t necessarily give you an immediate return, but is a long term investment in your goals.Plan, Plan, PLAN!  Keep things in perspective for the long term impact media coverage will have on your business. The Bombshell Business Woman has an entire chapter (13) on how to create a Red Lipstick Marketing Plan, and chapter 14 is all about Networking Like a Lady Boss.Learn more about your ad choices.
