Craig McPheeters of Bricktowne Brewing Co. is doing things a little bit different in one of the most craft beer savvy states of Medford, Oregon. Craig started out in a place you wouldn’t imagine, his 2 car garage. Building a 1bbl brew house in his garage, Craig was interested in starting small and testing the waters before he went full on at his current location in downtown Medford. Craig has now built his brewery to a 7bbl direct fire system, along with a restaurant. Craig has a ton of knowledge of brewing and along with his business partner, have started Bricktowne with no debt and great following.

Was incorporating a restaurant a struggle or were you adequately prepared? Craig’s mother and Father have owned several bar-restaurants throughout Craig’s life, so naturally Craig asked his father to manage the restaurant portion of the brewery. With Craig’s fathers know how of the restaurant industry all a seamless incorporation with the brewery.

Why did you decide to start the brewery in your own home? The ability to test the waters with very little capital was a huge help for Craig and Bricktowne. Not having to pay for all of the expenses that it takes to start an off site brewery saved Craig tens of thousands of dollars, while simultaneously generating revenue and delivering on several accounts early on, so that when it came time to move and upgrade, the transition was very easy and quick to grow.

Where do you see the future of craft beer? Consumers are getting wiser, as well as the big companies. It is by no surprise that these companies are spending millions buying up small breweries because the future of beer is craft which is what people are reaching for, and it can only grow from here.
