RATING
This podcast is fantastic! I love true crime and comedy podcasts, and this podcast marries the two brilliantly. Matt & Alice are lively and hilarious, and the writing is spot-on. The stories are really interesting - mostly white-collar British crimes that were "scandalous" in their day, but the real draw of the podcast is the excellence of the hosts. I love them - I love the show...and you will, too!
Extremely entertaining, very intriguing, and hilarious. British Scandal is a must listen too podcast!
Childish talking making a serious issue into a laughing matter. If you like this back and forth making fun while discussing murder then this is for you.
One of relatively few podcasts I've stopped listening to, though not because it is a bad podcast. I was hoping for a British equivalent of 'American Scandal', but this is a different style of podcast; less dramatic reconstruction, more jokey chat between the presenters. It's as well-researched as its American counterpart, so whether you enjoy it depends on what style of podcast you prefer. Have a listen and decide for yourself!
I absolutely love this podcast! I live in Australia and I love hearing the English accents of these two presenters. They are so funny and they present such interesting and insightful scandals. Some of them I’ve heard of and never really understood and others which are completely new to me. I’ve listened to a couple of “American Scandal “ and honestly British Scandal is so much better. So entertaining ! Love love love
Fun to listen to and always interesting. Listening to the Lucan story one thing that struck me is how the names attached to all those posh gambling creeps kept coming up in later years - Goldsmith, Shand-Kydd, Aspinall - and how, more than ever, money and connections can be used to smooth over most wrongdoing be it murder or parties at Number 10. Just one gripe: Matt Forde (who wasn't alive in the 70s) couldn't help decry that decade as being about three-day-weeks. That'll be the three-day-weeks that happened for about a month under the Tory Heath government because of their leader's arrogance. Since Forde had never heard of Mandrax (in the Sex Pistols episodes) I don't think there may be more reliable social historians out there.
There's a lot to love about this podcast but what really does it for me is the quality banter between Matt and Alice. Matt's overt dorkishness really shines through and you can't help but smile at some of his observations. Alice's cutting wit is brilliant too. I was fortunate enough to watch the live episode and was pleasantly surprised that the 'ad-libs' translated well on stage. A good script/story can only get you so far; you need great storytelling and presenting to carry it and Matt and Alice really deliver.
