The gold standard for quality actual play RPG podcasts.
The best actual play podcast out there? Possibly! I've yet to hear one better!
The most consistently surprising, moving, funny, incredibly produced and scored roleplay-storytelling show out there. How DARE you make me feel feelings!!
Nothing comes close for me in terms of Actual Play Podcasts. The casts are excellent. The GM's are flexible, but with a clear vision for the settings. Every episode has memorable, humorous moments--but really, it's the heart of the podcast that makes it special.
One of the best ttrpg podcasts out there! Unique original setting with deep world building and a fascinating take on magic and where power draws from. The characters are insanely likable and funny as hell, but the show also has a great balance of goofs, drama, and a beautiful wistful tone. I love everything about it and the world of Spier the cast is creating together!
Amazing podcast! Funny, moving, and deeply engaging story! Love the worldbuilding.
Such an amazing cast and setting! I love the story and of course Arne Parrott's music, but I would be remiss if I did not mention the best character in the show, Otto Van Von Veen! The finest cat you've ever seen!Do not miss out on this fantastic show!
I've been listeningto this since the lare Star Wars Campaign days. The cast is phenomenal, the soundscape superb and James D'amato is a legend of a GM
I haven’t got to the Skyjacks yet but the Star Wars campaign is one of the greatest actual plays ever. I trust that James keeps the quality up.
I started the series a while ago and very much enjoyed it. As someone who loves Genesys I was very keen on listening to a live play game using those rules. Dref was an AMAZING character and I really liked the setting. Then it seemed to start cascading, more and more it turned into a tell your own adventure rather than a RPG game, there were entire arcs with little to no rolling involved. Then it his Nordia... and I found myself fast forwarding through entire episodes. The 'character growth' was just talking about seemingly the same thing over and over and over and over. I'm trying to power through it in hopes that it gets better but it's basically become painful to listen. The jokes are not funny, an it sounds like they laugh at their own material more than any audience would. That being said, I'm going to keep trying. I've been told it gets better once the new fourth cast member joins.
A delightful and very high-quality production that never fails to make me smile. I especially commend them for their use of consultants to make sure elements of the world and the story come from best place possible. They own their mistakes and take steps to fix them. I also really really love how the players are so committed to the story they make choices that would hurt or weaken their characters!
One of the funniest and most compelling actual play podcasts out there. Their Star Wars campaign was constantly a bright spot in my week; I'm so excited to see where the podcast is going to go from here.
Such a well-done actual play TTRPG podcast! Clearly a lot of work is put into the planning, recording, and editing of this show. If you're into TTRPG podcasts, it's a must-listen.
"getting major critical role vibes from this" - says someone who has only listened to Critical RoleBut Skyjacks is really one of the best actual play pods around right now! There's so much care given to the story. Each city they visit is incredibly fleshed out, down to its own lore and festivals. And the overarching lore of everywhere the PCs visit (fear of the Mariner, reaction to the stars-falling, Luminaries) still makes everything feel tied together. The GM does a great job at giving just enough detail to orient the listener without bogging us down in lore or giving away all the secretsThe folks who play the player characters ALSO do such a good job - each character feels like they could be a protagonist in their own story [not only good acting on their part, but great balancing on the GMs part]. They're all compelling and likable (or lovingly hateable, in the case of Travis) within the story, both in their solo scenes and the scenes they have with one another. With a lot of actual play pods, there's a lot of 'watch 20 episodes until the Stockholme Syndrome hits and it gets good', but the initial hook of episode 1 really drags you in right away. Like, you'd think the base premise of 'pirates but in the air' would be enough, but the characters are thrown into a situation with drama and stakes immediately that is SO good. It's a unique way to start a pod (with the characters all knowing one another and having an immediate reason to stay/work together) and one of the best I've seen.Eagerly following along!
I've been listening to Campaign podcast for several years now, going as far back as their first episode with the Star Wars setting. Mr. D'amato and company always bring a fantastic level of performance to the table, both in a theatrical sense, but also from a roleplaying game perspective. James has actually thought me how to be a better GM in my own games, and I'll be forever grateful for that. The story in both their SW campaign and their current Skyjacks (Flying pirates, yeah it's that cool!) setting is thrilling, with well timed plot twists and reveals. Sound design is astounding, with dedicated tunes from a professional composer that doesn't pull any punches. My only gripe with the show is that the performers (James included) tend to go off the rails quite a lot. But honestly the performance in those exhilarating moments is so top-notch that most often you don't even mind.
This AP is home to some of the best story tellers I've ever heard. The cast and James consistently deliver heartfelt performances, and I love each and every character they portray.
