Over the past year, I have had the absolute pleasure to work with the Pine Valley School District as a technology integrator. A small, rural district in Western New York, it has an impressive cadre of tech savvy teachers. One of the most inspirational is 3rd grade teacher, Kirsten Lewis.
A glance into Kirsten's classroom almost always brings a frenzy of students actively engaged in an array of tech infused activities. I've seen green screen activities, Lego We-Do Coding, as well as, OneNote Notebook Podcasting activities, to name just few. Kirsten is also an avid Black Mirror fan and is always willing to talk tech and culture!
Here is a little about Kirsten in her own words: Kirsten Lewis is a 3rd grade teacher with a passion for books and reading with a splash of tech integration. A 15 year veteran, she holds a master’s degree in literacy with certifications in elementary education, english, and literacy. She is a self-proclaimed introvert with a weakness for coffee.

This was a really important conversation that I was honored to have with Luke. Marijuana legalization has been a hot button issue in many states. Luke and the Smart Approaches to Marijuana (SAM) Organization have been at the forefront to provide research and information to communities and states to provide valuable guidance in the decision making process. Marijuana policy will have direct effects on communities and schools so this is such an important topic for educators to think about now, rather than down the line when bad choices have been made.
A little bit about Luke in his own words: Luke Niforatos is the Chief of Staff and Senior Policy Advisor at SAM, presiding over strategic federal, state, and educational initiatives. Prior to SAM, he spent his career working in nonprofit community healthcare. Luke also founded two digital health companies. Having lived in Colorado during legalization, he, his wife, and daughter have seen firsthand the disastrous effects of lax marijuana policies. This experience inspired Luke to work and speak across the country for a smart marijuana policy free of commercialization and normalization. Luke graduated from the University of Denver.

3. I would like to focus a little bit on Marijuana and its effects on younger users and learners especially teens. Can you give an overview of some of the key research findings along the lines of youth and Marijuana use?

4. As you can imagine I follow educational blogs pretty regularly. While I see many articles and posts about Vaping and Meth issues, the silence on Marijuana Legalization is quite astounding. Do you think that is true in your experience? And why is there such silence on this issue in Education circles where it was once on the front lines.?

Had a really great conversation with Microsoft Education, Principal Product Manager, Mike Tholfsen. Mike offered a glimpse into Microsoft Educations' new vision, culture, and learning tools. I was really fascinated with Mike's insight into the research, collaboration, and development that goes into Microsoft's educational initiatives.
Here's a little about Mike in his own words: Mike Tholfsen is a Principal Product Manager on the Microsoft Education team focusing on Inclusive Classroom, Learning Tools and OneNote Class/Staff Notebooks. He is passionate about education and has been regularly working with students and teachers around the world over the past ten years to create products that improve student outcomes.
