The best podcast in regards to the Cold War, Ian Sanders is your Host who is able to shine a light on even the most unexpected aspects of this gigantic topic, which is fascinating especially because he always keeps a special focus on the Humen side of things at every story he and his guest are telling. Wich is of utmost importance to the understanding of nearly five decades of human history.
I am quite thankful Ian started this podcast, and we, as current and future listeners are fortunate he is preserving so much history!!!!
Brilliant. Especially like that this show interviews Cold War insiders at length. So much new detail!
Superb mix of experts of the era and those that actually lived it. Not just about the military history but the everyday lives of the people in and around the DDR. You'll find something new and end up down a rabbit hole, or rather bunker.
Cold War ConversationsThanks, Steve. I'm delighted you are enjoying the content.
Outstanding documentaries and eyewitness accounts in the whole bandwidth of the cold war era. Especially worth mentioning is, that guest from both sides of the former iron curtain are interviewed to give their own insight of things happend long ago.
Cold War ConversationsThanks so much for this.
Absolutely magnificent , I loved Ian's obvious enthusiasm for the whole period and non egocentric interviewing style, he relaxes his guests and establishes a rapport that has them delving into, and expressing their feelings about their cold war experiences that takes you right to the era. His approach reminds me of Dan Carlin's genuine wish to convey his interests and passion for his area of expertise as displayed in the excellent Hardcore Histories podcast. Keep at it Ian, all power to you!
Cold War ConversationsWow to be compared with Hardcore History with this ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ review of Cold War Conversations is a real honour! Thanks Brian
Having recently started some Cold War wargaming, I was keen to find out more about the period. An online search revealed this podcast and I haven't looked back since. It's important that we remember history, and this podcast does a superb job of it, by actually talking to the people that were involved. Great work, and long may it continue!
Cold War ConversationsHi Paul, thanks very much for the kind comments on the podcast. I've no intention of stopping!
This is a brilliant and always entertaining podcast. The range of subjects and people on it is what makes it so interesting. Ian's interview style is excellent, allowing the guests to share their stories and viewpoints, and doing so without adding judgement or making the show about him. The stories on here have covered the gamut of human emotion and experience and give a nuanced voice to a period of history that is too often seen through an ideological lens. Excellent!
Cold War ConversationsThanks very much, James. I'm delighted you are enjoying the content.
This podcast is my favorite. Ian is a great host and has had a wide and fascninating range of guests to share stories I would never have heard. I am only on Season 2, but I am going through them quickly. I was in the US Army at the tail end of the CW, but I have learned so much which has spurred me to do additional research and reading on my own. Some day, if I can get back to Germany, I hope to see some of the places I have heard about on the podcast. Maybe even bump into Ian. I would recommend checking out the Facebook group also!
Cold War ConversationsThanks so much for your kind comments. It's so nice to hear how people are enjoying the content. I'm looking at possibly running a virtual meetup for the FB group so stay tuned!
This is an incredibly interesting and informative podcast. Ian has interviewed such a wide variety of folks who have fantastic lived experiences of the Cold War. If I could give more than five stars, I would.
Cold War ConversationsGillian, Thanks for these comments. What started out as a little project has now appeared to have blossomed into a form of public service! I'm so glad people are enjoying the varied content.
Im a simple man, I like history, I like cold war subject matter. This is a great listen, all the guests first hand accounts are fascinating. The variety is incredible. Don't think it's all espionage, theres ordinary people's stories from behind the iron curtain, there's Eastern block football episodes there's army episodes there's air force episodes, Berlin specific episodes, and everything in between. Newest fave is Bob flying the mig 29.
Cold War ConversationsThanks Jim for the kind review. Bob was a great guest and what a story!
