In June of 2015, David's grandson was stricken with encephalitis.

Encephalitis is swelling of the brain; his grandson, Justus, had no warning-signs prior to the event and the family was caught completely off guard.

Justus was placed into a medically induced coma.

Over the course of time, David began sharing his journey publicly via Facebook- one status update at a time. The purpose of the updates started as a way to keep family and friends informed of Justus' condition. The unexpected benefit was reaching people who were impacted by David's words.

David had questions, thoughts and comments related to his own confusion and despair. He posed these questions and processed them on his Facebook page.

David shared his faith, he shared his heart and his inner struggle for all of us to see. Post.by.Post.

Soon the world was shouting #TeamJustus! and sharing David's updates and journey of faith.

This interview means a lot to me because David is one of the spiritual giants in my walking-with-God team. I am moved by David's wisdom and reliance on God for all things.

My favorite part of the interview was hearing David share his upset and questions he had with God about why his grandson was suffering. It empowered me to know that I can question God and He won't be angered.
