Shelley's bravery is truly awe inspiring as she shares how the pain of her past caught up to her in her twenties. As a PK (Pastor's Kid) she had already known that God loved her tremendously, but that didn't absolve her from some train wreck behaviors.

Shelley was suffering from addictions that were threatening her marriage, her livelihood and more.

This deep dive into Shelley's journey highlights the reality that when things happen to us as children, they show up if they aren't resolved- even YEARS LATER.

Shelley needed to address the pain that losing her grandmother caused and she had to address some facts that she was unable to understand as a child.

Facts like:

• Her parents had to manage things the best way they could and that meant Shelley didn't get the attention she deserved during that time.
• That her child mind was unable to process the truth's of what had happened and she needed to revisit the issue as an adult.
• That her behaviors were the result of experiencing a traumatic incident and not getting the outside help she needed to recover.

Shelley gets down and dirty with the tips, tools and activities she used to stop the destructive behaviors and to pay it forward. Shelley is the author of multiple books that heal people who are suffering like she was.

What I love about this interview is that Shelley was unafraid to go anywhere we needed to go to tell this story. Her willingness to admit she struggled with an addiction to pornography amped the respect level from me to level 10. When you are a woman of grace and courage, you don't hold back the unsavory parts of your journey to preserve your image. In fact, I honor that place in her that boldly shared her sacred crisis because it reinforces how God uses our worst parts to benefit others. Her willingness to speak that truth is fuel to the freedom train I want the Brave Nation to be riding. Because I guarantee if you are hiding an addiction like this, you are going to see an example of what can happen if you address it.
