Dan Fowler was raised in a fundamentalist Christian home.

This in and of itself, is not a negative thing. It was the addition of the judgemental philosophies that his parents held that stifled Dan and made it impossible for him to thrive. Dan found himself at continuous odds with his parents over everything:

  • What hobbies and interests he pursued
  • Who his friends were
  • How he expressed himself
  • What he pursued in college and for a career
  • His love for arts, film and music
  • How he loved his family

Dan's parents had lived a life based on what should be done, how things should be done and why things should be done that way. All of that shoulding on Dan became unbearable.

At 18 years old, Dan left his family and designed his own life.

In Episode One of this two-part series, Dan shares how he realized that his family had been poisoning his mind and fostering him to be discriminatory against people who weren't like his family. I freaking love what he did to counteract the indoctrination!

Things like:

  • Joining the worship and drama team of a Pentecostal church for six months
  • Becoming a videographer who creates rap music videos
  • Thriving in a 22-year film, television and music career
All of this lead to his becoming a thought leader in the arena of using our imagination

Today Dan hosts people from all over the world at his GAMIFICATION SUMMIT to teach entrepreneurs, speakers, and event organizers how to GAMIFY everything they do from live content to event environments.

Here is the thing about Dan. He is no-nonsense and the way he explains his family dynamic will help people break free from the guilt that comes with trying to exert your own desire for your life with the desire to please the people you love- sometimes you can't have both.

Dan was willing to lose the relationship he had with his family in order to live to his fullest potential and be able to feel normal in his own skin. His story might not seem as Bat-Shit crazy as others, but knowing that his sense of identity was so thrashed that she contemplated suicide tells me that it doesn't matter how intense a situation is as compared to another. Pain is pain and having the balls to overcome in order to live the life you deserve is badass!
