RATING
Surprisingly leftist view for such a moderate thinker as portrayed in the history podcasts. Dan is a much better narrator than political analyst as he shows evidence of his California bias. I'm a huge fan and admirer of Dan for his work on Hardcore history. This common sense podcast sheds light on Dan's lack of understanding of the stories from our collective past that he tells so well. Congrats on all the well deserved success.
Both sides are the saaaaaaame
It's very good, but when DC drops into third person I find myself reevaluating my decision to listen. Also his fans are - problematic. Don't follow the facebook group.
Dan Carlin has one of the most interesting minds in political talk. He is truly moderate about many issues and presents current day issues in context. Not super regular, but when they do release, they are must listens.
A good independent, but still thought out and thorough, look at politics.
I don't fully agree with a lot of his points but it still makes for an interesting listen.
Funny, entertaining, insightful, clever. Like the introduction says: you rarely get this much pleasure from disagreeing with someone about politics. This host is far from humble, but that can be hilarious in itself (which he knows very well). Dan Carlin is by far the most entertaining pocaster I know. The only weak point is that it becomes rather repetitive if you listen to all the older episodes (like I do). But often enough, you come across a unique insight that stays with you forever. Highly recommended!
Been listening to this podcast since 2007 and it's really shaped my understanding of politics for the better. Dan has a very deep knowledge of American politics and doesn't give the usual simplistic team-based perspective. He's subtle and pragmatic. He's also usually right about how events will play out and focuses on the important issues and not the fluff. I wish more people listened to this show.
Having some commentary about late events from the writer of Hardcore History is very interesting. Its one of the things professional historians won't do: comment on the events BEFORE they become history. We always see history from a different perspective and anyone trying to see current events from that lens may be accused by all sides. He may also miss the importance of things: its difficult to make predictions about the future and so most historians stick to the past. However, if really history can teach us something, if it has some value, it would be that it can be used to navigate the future. It will be very interesting to see how this podcast sounds 50 years from now, history is chaotic, events and outcomes unpredictable. It is still a most valiant valuable and interesting effort.
Couldn't get into this. The episodes are long and Carlin rambles a lot. He is knowledgeable, but his delivery seems less factual and more, "this is my opinion and it is right".
