3 episides in, I expected it to be boring because the premise sounded like it's just interviewing people about their lives, and, well, you don't really need ghosts for that. But I really love ghost stories, and with ghosts who aren't presented as some evil things especially, so I decided to give it a try. And I'm so glad I did! The podcast clearly has a soul to it, it gripped me right away. I love how different the stories and the views are, how Mal is being reminded he doesn't know everything, and it's interesting. It creates some intrigue and gives more character both to the ghosts and Mal himself. Also I think I hear a lot of queer voices? As an enby myself, it's so nice. Audio dramas truly are the richest field in this regard. Speaking of which, I really liked Mal's approach to the faded spirit. (Although the Maid is my favorite one so far.) Can't wait to hear more!
I had mixed emotions about this one. It is well done, and the voice acting is really good. It's cozy and a little sad, and the stories are kind of bland, like real life. But after the first dozen episodes, I was left feeling like I would be getting more out of it if I were listening to the life stories of real people instead of fiction. The more I thought about that, the less I enjoyed the podcast. I would still recommend it, it just wasn't for me.
I knew by the creators that this was going to be good, but wow. Blown away by the quality of this audiodrama. Every episode features a different ghost interviewed by the protagonist, and each is a unique, captivating character representing a specific subculture and time period in NYC. There's clearly a lot of research that goes into the show, they do a great job of making the characters feel truly authentic to their time. The concept is simple but it's so much more than the sum of its parts. Highly recommended.
Having such a great time with this new project by the creators of Archive 81. Character profiles that take twists and turns have always been some of this team's greatest stengths, and they're playing to that like nobody's business. It's great for fans of Forgive Me! who want something a little more haunted.
