Episode 35  of Viral:COVID-19 looks deep into what Ireland’s physical and political relationship with the United Kingdom means for our own autonomy and decision making when it comes to COVID-19 policy making.

For a number of weeks speculation has mounted on when a “green list” of countries would be published, not requiring passengers to quarantine when arriving home from international travel, but on Tuesday the Irish Government announced an extension of their Covid-19 advice on overseas travel until July 20th at the earliest.

Naomi O’Leary, The Irish Times Europe Correspondent and host of The Irish Passport Podcast  looks at “How Ireland’s travel policy is curbed by Britain” in part one of the epsiode, as she discusses the complex nature of our relationship with our nearest neighbours and why clear leadership is imperative to resolve this during the COVID crisis and beyond.

Later in the podcast host Ian Doyle is joined by Dr Jack  Lambert - Consultant in Infectious Diseases and Genitourinary Medicine at the Matter University Hospital, who believes that the newly formed Irish Government need to look at wider measures that will help the public and economy progress with their previous routines, including potentially fewer restrictions on foreign travel.
