Special Report Covid Coffee Chronicles

Episode 70

Welcome back to the Covid Coffee Chronicles. This week we are back with Nell and Jim, of the Nell and Jim Band, two incredibly talented musicians who just happened to have gotten tired of touring with “road coffee” and when they couldn’t find what they wanted they created their own.

Enter Banjo Boy Coffee.

This episode we find out how Covid-19 has affected them personally and share the heartbreak of not being able to share live music,or collaboration during this non-touring time of pandemic in the United States.  Find out what they are doing to stay connected with the musical community including the upcoming Father’s Day Bluegrass Festival in a studio with safe distancing. How do you get your band members together when you have to do social distancing? If someone wants a perfect recording, then they can currently listen to the newly released album Western Sun, but  if they want a truly live experience, well the current technology, leaves something to be desired. What are the benefits and drawbacks of Skype, Facetime etc. What does this social distancing new normal mean when you get a birthday cake?  How about using Auto-tune?

The musical community is considered by these individuals as one big family. What are there plans during this time of quarantining? What is the connection to Wisconsin, and how does a collectable Martin guitar play into the sound and the history of this unique group? This week we hear all about John Prine,  Ramblin’ Jack Elliott and the Goose Island Ramblers,  Smokey George, Wendy “Windy” Whitford and how these icons play into the musical heritage of the Nell and Jim band.
