Napster came out of nowhere, was the biggest thing in the world, and then disappeared just as quickly. What really happened? In the late 90s, the music industry was on the verge of change. Many were concerned about the growing popularity of the Internet, and how digital files could be easily shared from home to home. Could this have some kind of lasting effect on sales of albums somewhere down the line? But all that changed when a new program popped out seemingly out of nowhere: Napster. And it did everything that the music execs feared. It let anybody shared any music for free. Over the next couple of years the program exploded in popularity, but it was steeped in legal trouble almost immediately. And then it was gone. So what really happened in the fascinating tale of the rise and fall of Napster? On this very special season finale of Deep Cuts, we explore that very question...in musical form. The Rise and Fall of Napster was written by Andrew & Dave. All of the songs in this production were written, produced, and performed by the Deadboy Detectives. With drums performed by Jake NaugleAnd sound mixing by SANTIAGO MORILLO SEGOVIAexcept:Always Be Alright, which has additional vocal performance by Jadyn Beyer and Ephraim PriceA Simple Code, which was written and produced by Jeremy Arambulo with lyrics written by Andrew Price and Dave Baker and performed by Dave Baker. You can check out Jeremy’s cartoonist work at jeremyarambulo.com/ and his music project, Fluorescent Beige, at fluorescentbeige.bandcamp.com/Everything Good Blows Up, which was written and performed by Good Bison.
