Cyndi and Kelly look at two literary mysteries in the seventh episode of season 4. Cyndi takes a deep dive into who the author of Shakespeare’s plays really was, and Kelly examines the 11-day disappearance of Agatha Christie.
Was Shakespeare the merchant from Stratford or was he part of the nobility writing under a pen name? This has been the question swirling in literary circles since it was proffered by Thomas Looney in 1920.
This a hotly contested topic among scholars. Many scholars believe that the 37 plays and 154 sonnets were written by the merchant from a Stratford, William Shaksper, however, there is ample evidence to the contrary.
Some other people who have been contenders in replacing Stratford Shaksper as the famous Bard include playwright Christopher Morrow who is the original Tupac. Marlow was stabbed in a tavern in 1593 but some believe he didn’t die but went into hiding due to gambling debts and continued to write. To the show notes!
The weekend of December 3, 1926, Archie Christie, Agatha Christie’s husband, informed her that he would be spending the weekend with friends and she wasn’t invited. His mistress, however, was.
Later that night, Agatha left her house and disappeared. The next morning, her car was found abandoned several miles away, which provoked a massive manhunt. The police got two crime novelists involved hoping they could provide a different perspective. To the show notes!
