Desert Skies is a beautiful and slickly produced audiodrama that's very hard to categorise. Set in a gas station between planes of existence, it's somewhere between science fiction and fantasy. It's surreal, but consistent—the rules of this reality aren't those of the real world, but they're fair. It's not exactly a comedy, but the author is artful at using humour as a versatile emotional tool. It's not a soap opera, but the characters' developing stories make you care about them. It's charming, moving, and funny in exactly the right proportions. Listen to the first episode and you may never be able to look at a microwavable burrito the same way again.

This show is hilarious, sublime and at times devastatingly heartbreaking. The writing, sound design and voice acting are all stellar. Just an impressively executed podcast from concept to creation. From Buick Skylarks to Gas Station Burritos there's so much weirdness lovingly stitched together with grounded human stories and impeccable wit. Highly recommend. One of the easiest and most comfortable Fiction Podcasts to sink into.
This show deserves it's praise - the comic timing is pristine, the plots balance warm and funny with sorrowful and moving, the world building doesn't feel overwhelming, and the powerful electro-trance soundtrack fits the otherwordly-but-worldly vibe perfectly. It took me a while to notice this is another solo-showrunner doing voices, which is a mark of mad skillz. I love Mac but then I think I'm supposed to.
I’m a little late to the party listening to this popular show. I read a lot of good things about it so my expectations were high. I wasn’t entirely sure it merited all that praise after listening to the first episode, but once I got into it, I fell in love. It is charming and cozy and heart-warming. So nice to listen to! I fully understand now why everyone is raving about it. If you want to feel al warm and gooey, while being transported to a different astral plane and hanging out with gas station attendants and coyotes in the afterlife, then listen to Desert Skies.
This show totally blew me out the water. It's got heart, it's got an extremely well-paced overarching mystery, the world building is measured yet it still captures an aura of whimsy. Each individual story is touching while still moving the series themes along. Desert Skies is extremely well crafted and the fact that it is created totally by one person only highlights how extraordinary this show is. When you listen to this, you will be hit with the sense that you are listening to art, because that is what it is at the end of the day. Really really good art.
This is an absolutely awesome podcast!! If I could give more than 5 stars I would. As one reviewer said, this is a hard podcast to put in one category. I think it fits nicely in the Sci-Fi/Fantasy category, sprinkled liberally with humor and nuggets of wisdom. And even though creator is the voice of 99 percent of the characters, his range is extensive enough that you mostly forget he is the one doing most of the voices as they are all different. I have never left a review on this site or even one this extensive on any other platform but this podcast deserves a more in depth voice than just the 5 stars. Please keep making this podcast!! The story is immersive, the characters lovable and the sound design very well done. I hope to help financially in the future, but until then, I hope more people find this podcast and give it the 5 stars it deserves to keep it at the top of the list for more people to find this wonderous gem! Looking forward to the next episode, Chrissi Malone
Think 80s-sitcom, but but in the best possible way! It's a bit of a slow burn, but once it gets going, you'll be hooked!
Limbo is a road to the next plane of existence, and along that road is a gas station. The people inside the gas station don't know what the next plane of existence holds, but they help travelers feel comfortable moving to that plane. A story about coming to terms with life experiences, facing regrets and unknowns, friendship, and reaching out with kindness and understanding to people who need it. I appreciate that, despite this being a one-person show, both male and female characters exist in this world. Charming and a bit surreal.
This is a great story. Heartwarming, uplifting. Quirky. But still not afraid to swear. Its hilarious. Love the work, creator, great job- oh and the sound scape is great, so is the music! Really invested in this story.
The entire cast and crew are amazing. The writer is top notch and each installment is full of heart (and some laughter too). Easily my favorite fiction podcast and I always eagerly anticipate the next episode and each lore tidbit. The production and engineering team is fantastic also.
This is endlessly entertaining! It's funny and intriguing and heartwarming. Absolutely terrific!
Well written, well acted, 10/10 would recommend 🤌🏻A beautiful story about life and death, and growth and loss, and what it means to exist ,and friendship, and family. Both season finales so far have made me cry (positive).

When you die, you end up in a car driving along a desert road towards your final journey. Apparently limbo looks like Route 66. Along the way, you'll probably have a break at the Desert Skies gas station. It is run by an attendant, a mechanic, and an AI, all of whose knowledge or ability to provide information about this celestial plane is scanty. But what they can offer is comfort, understanding, a shoulder to cry on, as you get to grips with the idea that you are dead. Desert Skies is about offering kindness when people are troubled by regrets or unknowns, or just because kindness is worth offering regardless. It's a balm for the soul. Highly recommended.
Quick witted humor, sarcasm, intrigue.I am enjoying it so far.
I wanted to like it as thematically it is right up my alley. I had a hard time with the deadpan performance of the attendant though. It just felt forced, like someone reading lines, and I couldn't suspend disbelief enough to get into the story, even after a few episodes.
LOVE LOVE I cant wait for more reminds me of midnight gospel, so if you liked that I'm sure you'll love this!
Desert Skies is genuinely entertaining. Lowkey in premise but comes to together by the pathos of its execution. The first 2 episodes definitely emulate people coming to terms of the nature of their death. Mixing both comedy and drama, that combination gives depth and humanity to the story. I can even see this as a show you would see on Adult Swim. It reminds me of shows I saw in my childhood. Honestly, I prefer that to the nihilism of certain shows like Rick & Morty.
This podcast definitely scratched an itch I didn’t even know I had
