Adam and Brent decided to close out the season with one more silly meme episode, so they took the trip to Hell (Marwen) once again! They get into Robert Zemeckis's (Bobby Z's) career, Steve Carrell's weird filmography, what makes this adaptation of the famous documentary so misguided and awkward, and what kinds of changes could've made it a good movie. It's a fun one where the guys both almost lose their minds having stared into the void that is Marwen, so enjoy! This will be the last episode for a little while as Adam takes a vacation and we start to bank next seasons episodes, so stay subscribed, stay tuned, and stay safe!As always, check out http://Stickerfridge.com for everything we have going on, from videos to podcasts, articles and more!Follow Adam and Brent on www.letterboxd.com at 'Relativistic' and 'Binary1138' respectively!

They get into the hot 90's trend of live-action animal movies, their favorites of that genre, horse trivia and their favorite horse breeds! If that sounds up your alley or even if it doesn't, it's another highly specific, unique Directors Choice entry and one that's been a long time coming now! It’s our first random grab-bag bonus episode this season, and we decided to watch Kevin Connolly’s ‘Gotti’. It’s a truly awful movie that the guys had a lot of fun watching, with plenty of fun things to get into about what makes it such a badly executed riff on gangster movie tropes. There’s a lot of Scorsese talk in this one, what makes this movie feel so immature and derivative, as well as John Travolta’s weird and pretty tragic life and career. Brent also has a pretty long tangent about watching all of Entourage. It’s a bit of a wacky one, so we hope you enjoy. Make sure to recommend the show to someone you know, rate/review on your podcast app of choice, and thanks for listening! As always, check out http://Stickerfridge.com for everything we have going on, from videos to podcasts, articles and more!Follow Adam and Brent on www.letterboxd.com at ‘Relativistic’ and ‘Binary1138’ respectively! The post GOTTI appeared first on Sticker Fridge Studios.
Adam and Brent welcome back season-opener Erik Casarez to the podcast to close out the season with ‘Jojo Rabbit’! The guys get into their favorite moments in the movie, what they believe Waititi’s intention to be in making it, and their final season rankings (and winner???). It’s a great one to cap the season and we want to thank everyone for listening along and showing it to a friend, it’s a been a blast, despite the world coming to a halt around us. Stay home, stay safe, and stay tuned for a bonus episode as well as our 5th Dealers Choice episode! As always, check out http://Stickerfridge.com for everything we have going on, from videos to podcasts, articles and more!Follow Adam and Brent on www.letterboxd.com at ‘Relativistic’ and ‘Binary1138’ respectively! The post Jojo Rabbit appeared first on Sticker Fridge Studios.
Adam and Brent are once again joined by buddy Gus Kelley to talk ‘Baby Driver’! The guys get into their historical context of seeing it together (AKA Brent’s Big Piss), City Pop music from 70’s/80’s Japan, Slimepunk being an ACTUAL REAL THING and much more! Also a very deep dive into what Edgar Wright is doing and attempting with this movie, it’s many influences and it potentially not again as well as Wright’s others! It’s a great, in-depth penultimate episode on the season, so make sure to rate/review/subscribe, etc. and tell your quarantined friends and families about the show! As always, check out http://Stickerfridge.com for everything we have going on, from videos to podcasts, articles and more! Adam and Brent are back from their break to talk one of Taika’s most recent films, ‘Hunt for the Wilderpeople’! The guys talk about what they’ve been up to, comparisons between Wilderpeople and Waititi’s ‘Boy’, a ‘Sam Neill’ corner, and what they’ve been watching in quarantine! It’s just the boys this week, talking one of the best movies of 2016, we hope you enjoy and make sure to recommend the show to a friend or family member! Adam and Brent are once-again joined by John and Delfin from ‘Countdown to Infinity’ to talk Thor: Ragnarok! The guys are back with their wealth of MCU and Marvel comics knowledge to talk one of the better MCU films. The guys get into a lot of Hollywood industry talk, the balance between making a producer-driven movie and being an auteur, and of course how Ragnarok is similar to ‘The Last Jedi’! It’s another extensive and thorough episode talking the MCU at large and Waititi’s first (likely of several) big Hollywood movies! As always, check out http://Stickerfridge.com for everything we have going on, from videos to podcasts, articles and more! Follow Adam and Brent on www.letterboxd.com at ‘Relativistic’ and ‘Binary1138’ respectively! The post Thor: Ragnarok appeared first on Sticker Fridge Studios.
Brent and Adam are closing out the Cornetto trilogy with a bang, talking ‘The World’s End’ with some dynamite guests, John Casares and Emmanuel Delfin from Delfinpod! They get into the depth of ‘The World’s End’ compared to the other Cornetto films, which character they each think they are, and many, many other tangents. It’s a jam-packed episode (one of Director Showdowns longest yet) but a fun one. Thanks again for listening to the show and please rate/review/subscribe, wherever you get podcasts, and make sure to listen to all of the Deflin Pod shows, from Countdown to Skywalker/Infinity to Revenge of the Sequel! Adam and Brent are joined by David Rodriguez once again to talk Taika Waititi’s 2015 vampire mockumentary ‘What We do in the Shadows’! The guys get into favorite movies in each genre, What various attractions one could find at ‘Waititi World’ (Brent’s is a KILLER joke, one of the best of the season) and what makes ‘Shadows’ a great mockumentary. It’s a fun episode talking one of the best comedies of the last decade (maybe Waititi’s funniest??) so we hope you watched along and enjoy! As always, check out http://Stickerfridge.com for everything we have going on, from videos to podcasts, articles and more! Follow Adam and Brent on www.letterboxd.com at ‘Relativistic’ and ‘Binary1138’ respectively! The post What We Do in the Shadows appeared first on Sticker Fridge Studios.
Adam and Brent are talking Edgar Wright’s 3rd feature ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World’. They get into the multiple influences that go into making a movie this weird, celebrity crushes, action directing and a brief tangent about Michael Cera’s weird career! It’s a great episode on a (still) underappreciated gem of the early 2010’s, so we hope you enjoy! As always, check out http://Stickerfridge.com for everything we have going on, from videos to podcasts, articles and more! Follow Adam and Brent on www.letterboxd.com at ‘Relativistic’ and ‘Binary1138’ respectively! The post Scott Pilgrim vs. the World appeared first on Sticker Fridge Studios.
Adam and Brent are back talking about Waititi and his sophomore effort ‘Boy’! They get into why and how the movie is a drastic improvement on Eagle vs Shark (no offense to lovers of that one), how getting vulnerable and personal helps with authenticity, and Waititi as an actor as well as writer/director. Also the many striking similarities to Spielberg’s ‘E.T.’ It’s maybe their favorite episode of the season yet, finding a lot of good thematic connections and comparisons to make to other unexpected films/properties. Again thank you for listening and tell a friend about the show, and STAY SAFE AND INDOORS! Adam and Brent are back talking Edgar Wright with his second film, ‘Hot Fuzz’. The guys talk the many influences of Edgar Wright’s filmmaking, dense plotting of Hot Fuzz and if they think this is low-key Edgar Wright’s best movie! Also, which country is better: New Zealand or Great Britain!? Thank you all for listening, and make sure to spread the word to family and friends, and please STAY INSIDE UNTIL THIS BLOWS OVER! We love you guys! As always, check out http://Stickerfridge.com for everything we have going on, from videos to podcasts, articles and more! Adam and Brent are once again joined by Erik Casarez to talk ‘Eagle vs Shark’, Taika Waititi’s debut film! The fellas talk about mid-to-late 2000’s indie films, the oddly massive impact of Napoleon Dynamite, and some of their issues with Waititi’s first film! It’s a fascinating first movie to start a career, as Waititi has grown into one of Hollywood’s biggest current “It” celebrities and creators. If you haven’t seen ‘Eagle vs Shark’ prior to the podcast (we wouldn’t be surprised) it’s worth a watch to see where Taika started and to chart how much he’s grown since. Stay safe and indoors out there everyone! As always, check out http://Stickerfridge.com for everything we have going on, from videos to podcasts, articles and more! It’s finally time for Season 8 of Director Showdown: Edgar Wright vs. Taika Waititi, kicking things off with 2004’s ‘Shaun of the Dead’! We’re talking lighter fare this season, since the whole damn world is locked inside and quarantined. We’ve also been talking about covering comedy directors since practically the beginning, deciding on these two guys, each with their own careers climbing the zeitgeist and building interesting filmographies. On this season opener talking ‘Shaun of the Dead’, the guys lay out what’s coming ahead, get into Wright’s unique, and modern culmination of visual storytelling, foreshadowing and callbacks, and their favorite zombie movies! We hope you’ll join us with a nice, comfy quarantine season of entertaining comedies while we all wait for this to blow over! As always, check out http://Stickerfridge.com for everything we have going on, from videos to podcasts, articles and more! Listen, you guys asked for it and here it is. Our shortest episode with a fittingly weird energy to discuss Tom Hooper’s cinematic travesty, ‘Cats’. We get into the financial loss of the movie, the indecision of any strong choices to make it something more interesting, and the inherent hubris of attempting a Cats cinematic adaptation in the first place. This will be our last bonus episode for season 7, and we’re getting under way with the next series ASAP (as we’re all locked away in quarantine anyway, might as well be productive!) Thanks so much for being patient with our chaotic release pattern and for spreading the show to friends and family, please continue to do so! As always, check out http://Stickerfridge.com for everything we have going on, from videos to podcasts, articles and more! Follow Adam and Brent on www.letterboxd.com at ‘Relativistic’ and ‘Binary1138’ respectively! The post Cats appeared first on Sticker Fridge Studios.
Adam and Brent are finally back with this seasons Dealers Choice winner ‘Wet Hot American Summer’ with Erik Casarez! It’s the first ‘good’ movie of the 4 Dealer’s Choice competitions we’ve had so far, and the fellas enjoy getting into the nitty gritty of David Wain’s cult comedy classic! The first on-screen appearance of Bradley Cooper, the comedy style of Wain and his comedy troupe ‘The State’, as well as why Wet Hot American Summer was misunderstood at the time and the importance of ‘time and place’ to a films success. All these topics, as well as Tom Nook’s crooked business practices and tangents about loving Paul Rudd make this an all-time bonus ep! Thank you all for being patient with our release schedule, we’ll be getting back to a regular release cycle soon, what with having to stay indoors for the next 3+ months or so. As always, check out http://Stickerfridge.com for everything we have going on, from videos to podcasts, articles and more! Follow Adam and Brent on www.letterboxd.com at ‘Relativistic’ and ‘Binary1138’ respectively! The post Dealer’s Choice: Wet Hot American Summer appeared first on Sticker Fridge Studios.
Adam and Brent finally wrap up season 7 with Bigelow’s acclaimed Bin Laden manhunt film ‘Zero Dark Thirty’! They get into the complicated legacy of the film, it’s depiction of torture scenes as well as the intense and realistic raid at the end of Zero Dark Thirty! Aside from that, they get into a brief ‘Chris Pratt Chat Corner’, talk Deuce Bigelow’s relation to Kathryn Bigelow, and an overall discussion and ranking for the season overall (with a few VERY surprising placements). Thank you all so incredibly much for listening to the show, telling your friends about it, and especially being patient during the few gaps we had between episodes (we’re busy boys with busy, chaotic lives!) We’ll be back within a week or two with DIRECTOR SHOWDOWN DEALER’S CHOICE 4! We have no goddamn clue what it’ll be, so make sure you’re subscribed so it pops up in the feed! As always, check out http://Stickerfridge.com for everything we have going on, from videos to podcasts, articles and more! Follow Adam and Brent on www.letterboxd.com at ‘Relativistic’ and ‘Binary1138’ respectively! The post Zero Dark Thirty appeared first on Sticker Fridge Studios.
Adam and Brent wrap up James Cameron for the season talking ‘Avatar’ with Brian Menard! It’s an episode filled with even more 2010 Oscar context, as well as discussions about the tropes of the movie and it’s many technological advancements. This one also has plenty of historical context from 2009! It’s our penultimate episode for this season, talking a potentially underrated modern action classic, so we hope you enjoy and thanks so much for listening! As always, check out http://Stickerfridge.com for everything we have going on, from videos to podcasts, articles and more! Adam and Brent are back talking Bigelow’s Best Picture-winner ‘The Hurt Locker’! The guys get into comparisons to both Point Break and the Safdie brothers’ Uncut Gems, the bomb sequences in the movie as well as a lot of good context for the 2010 Oscars, and the battle between Bigelow and Cameron! It’s just the fellas for this episode (back to guests next week!) so enjoy the deep dive into Bigelow’s modern war classic, and thanks so much for listening! They get into their personal histories with Titanic, it’s place in society as a huge cultural touchstone for generations, and the sexual awakenings caused by Leo DiCaprio. Some other topics are tangents into practical vs. digital VFX, balancing a romance with set pieces and how James Cameron used prior successes to become ‘king of the world’! It’s a wild episode, even by our standards, so enjoy and thanks for listening! As always, check out http://Stickerfridge.com for everything we have going on, from videos to podcasts, articles and more! Follow Adam and Brent on www.Letterboxd.com at ‘Relativistic’ and ‘Binary1138’ respectively! The post Titanic appeared first on Sticker Fridge Studios.
Adam and Brent are once again joined by friend David Rodriguez to discuss Kathryn Bigelow’s millenium-epic ‘Strange Days’! They talk the movies many themes, how it represents the era of late 90’s/early 2000’s , the ‘squid’ technology, and how it’s box office failure knocked her career off course for a decade. It’s a great, tangent-y talk about a very solid and under-seen/under-discussed movie, so we hope you watch it if you haven’t. As always, thank you for listening, and make sure to like, comment and subscribe to the pod wherever you get them and have a great Christmas and New Year! PROGRAMMING NOTE: WE’LL BE TAKING A SHORT BREAK FOR CHRISTMAS AND (FITTINGLY ENDING ON THIS MOVIE) NEW YEARS. WE’LL BE BACK IN JANUARY WITH TITANIC!
