Merry Christmas from Ben and Phil! Here's a special show for everyone spending today alone (or just wants something to do whilst hiding!) With thanks to Colin's Godson, The Plimptons, Wolf 359 and all of you for a year of ridiculous fun in very strange times. See you in 2020!
Sexual swear words and adult situations ahoy this week as Ben and very under the weather Phil play a game of Birthday Top Trumps pitting unlikely duos born on the same day against each other, including a horror writer vs. a puppeteer, Johnny Marr's neck strength, Corbyn's collection of video nasties and Simon Bates in a battle you'll be delighted never to know the answer to. And later Beatlemania is fully covered with items on unusual manias and also a Beatle. Plus Thatcher's heroin crimes, what the R stands for in Kelly, moist Alans, Orville The Duck's audition for It Chapter Three, nose wars, Pliers gets rude, Larry the Cable Guy's jam making abilities are brought into question, standard polygamy and what Ringo Starr's childhood nickname almost certainly should've been. It’s a top one, trumpo!  If you would like to support our Patreon click here and get two bonus podcasts every month: https://www.patreon.com/dontletschart We've currently got three exclusive, Patreon-only episodes of "Don't Lets Chart" available that will never be on the regular feed. The boys are back...in delicious gravy! Ben's got something to promote but he can't for the life in him remember what it is so instead he and Phil investigate Doctor Who cameos as the worlds of James Bond and Ken Dodd collide. Plus: Mr USA and Ms Sidedish's finest works revealed, John Cleese gets it wrong, what bird not to cover in gravies, Sloths for Kids, a Christmas episode set before Christ, Julian Glover is left out, 175 recipes for a sauce and the most depressing comedy episode of the 80s. Which episode of Paddington featured his powerful death squads? How many Spanish Galleons is too many for private use? What is the best Steve Guttenberg film from 1984 to 1987? When will the fiancées of Darren Day get their reparations? and where does "Lovable Zanies II" fit into all this? The answers to all of the above and more are featured in this episode of the internet's eighth or ninth most popular facts and daft jokes podcast (Skipton Region ONLY) with your hosts Ben Baker and Phil Catterall. Other items of fancy include the ballad of Boss Tweed, Geoff Hamilton's increasingly unused spade, too much Police Academy, fallen bacon, telly having a nap, the worst "corruptsmans", John Letter, meeting the Neighbours, extreme stench, putting a hit on Frank Sinatra, checking for ghosts, Wallace Carruthers and his gift to the world's legs, advertising pears, Valerie Harper's contract and a sobering look at bastards. Why did the band Muse sue Celine Dion?   Who wouldn't welcome a traction engine through the post?   Which rocker requires our Unsolicited Celebrity Advice?   What is the best time?   And how do the Alans fit into all this?   Find out in another trouser-wrenching edition of the programme that aims to find sense in the madness of the world through our history and pop culture detritus. In the entertainment sack this week is a ban on "hand signed" autographs, Beatlemania, one of Werner Herzog's better decisions, 'Pedo Guy' revisited, a really big shoe, the Old Farmer's Almanac, the biggest leaf comes into question, Toni Braxton's bosom crisis, bastard killer whales, the formation of the Wide Awake Club, a genuine claustrophobic breakdown and, as always, a drawing of Nick Wilton having a bath.   Oh and the robot's back. How did a goat lead to a sporting disaster for over sixty years? Is Fall Guys the ideal way to decide who is best at religion? Was Thomas Edison's first film really called "Two Lasses Doing Some Kissing In The Bare"? Where is the best place to buy bees? And what did Bruce Springsteen pull out of in 2007? All these questions amazingly will be answered in the first episode of a brand new series of weekly trivia and stupidity podcast "Don't Lets Chart" with Ben Baker and Phil Catterall. There's also room for Curses, Air Bud Rules, farmin' rock, Kermit 16:9, Klingon Sex, the use of Parrots in Divorce, Badmington for Christ, two and Half Imperial Tons Of Cats, Cliffism, another Elizabeth Taylor wedding and who REALLY did the murder in Agatha Christie's "The Mousetrap". And so we say farewell to series two of Don't Lets Chart with the Top 15 BEST THINGS EVER as voted for by you lot! And its....weird. Really weird. We have classic epic fantasy clashing with bacon whilst Time Lords and Tea face off alongside crisps, brown booze, domestic animals and those bloody transforming robots again. We're joined by Louise Nilon again, plus a LEGO odyssey with Tim Worthington and Garreth Hirons reveals the shocking truth behind the conspiracy linking ham and cheese sandwiches to the Pet Shop Boys. There's also the final daft "REAL or FAKE" quiz, a discussion on the popularity of Anthony Costa and pals, why "Cats" will never die and much much more. Thank you to everyone who took this journey into nonsense with us for the previous 14 months. There's going to be a special summer series for all patrons as a thanks for the constant support you've given us since we launched the Patreon last year. You've no idea how much it helps as well as giving two increasingly bearded men something to do once a week. https://www.patreon.com/dontletschart Stay safe, take care and punch fascists in the eye with one of those boxing glove on a spring things like they have in comics. And cameos from our friends Lisa and Andrew from Round The Archives and Paul Abbott from Hark! and the all new Head Ballet podcast!     Thanks to everyone who voted and has continued to support us through these uncertain, nonsense times. Creamy mash mash. That about sums up this week's episode of "Don't Lets Chart" which tries to celebrate May 4th as literally anything but Star Wars Day, looks blankly at the over-specific Grammy categories and ends on a quiz that defames every single children's puppet character you loved as a child. Its shocking, its steamy and its here! So change the password on your dog, bin that lightsaber and lets begin.... Everyday is like Ghost Train on Sunday as the definitely not driven mad Ben and Phil go head to head in a Saturday Morning Showdown featuring the likes of No.73, The 8:15 From Manchester, Tiswas and - yes - Telegantic Megavision! Then there's a quiz for all fans of Derek Boy and his Peckham pals on "Only Fools And Horses" before we run down the top ten charity singles that fell through the floorboards and Ben announces his ill-advised and dubiously beneficial new project...  This is what they want?  Um...I'll get back to you on that after I've used this tree... Happy birthday to us! Yes, this our 50th episode! I know, we dont look a day over 47!  To celebrate, we present this new tailor made collectors edition episode of "Don't Lets Chart" with exquisite ruby and mushy pea-encrusted highlights of the award-borrowing lists about Phillip Schofield, bad gravy, Terry and June, hams and A Dracula to name a few. This graceful and intricate collection was crafted by artisan Ben Bakers with striking ornate Phil Catteralls sewn into the lining. This record is not available in the shops. Because shops dont exist anymore.  The French have a phrase for programmes like these: "c'est mieux que d'être en feu ... juste". Oui oui! Hello, welcome to containment zone B-37 formerly known as "Don't Lets Chart" and the Don't Lets Charts are off to Liverpool! Or rather they were last week just before the proverbial hit the wossname and it didnt seem quite so ridiculous to jaunt off to the land of Ian and The Zodiacs to meet some of our fellow podcasting friends. Inside this mop-topped package of podcastery are several items recorded around the city as well as some items inspired by the Mersey - such as the sexiest accents of all time, the story of the superlambananas, a top new quiz and possibly least tasteful list by Ben to date. So settle in, grab your best cushion with Jean Boht's face on it, inject your eyeball medicines and enjoy this week's episode remembering what the outdoors used to be like! ========================= Ben's (sort of) new book "Death By Stereo" can be bought here... Everything else is the same, just with a much less baffling name for people who dont know obscure TISM E.P. tracks.  =================== Find Paul's podcast "Hark!" here:  https://twitter.com/Hark87Podcast  And "Retrospecticus" featuring Garreth here:  https://twitter.com/_Retrospecticus
"You can watch Dog Day Afternoon because you rotated your arm..." Happy International Richard Herring Telling People About International Women's Day! We're doing our best to celebrate the day despite you know...the obvious. There's a Cheryl Baker inspired look at the lesser discussed pre-9am Saturday shows including Breakfast Serials, Kissyfur, the wrong early version of ChuckleVision and whatever the frig Ovide was meant to be. Then we visit the video shop for a very original game show not affiliated with the late Bruce Forsyth before we discuss rare dolls seriously and with great insight. And not just a lot of giggling at names like "Original Midge". To the women!  And yes, we know its spelled Allan.  ====================== We've currently got a bunch of exclusive, Patreon-only episodes of "Don't Lets Chart" available that will never be on the regular feed. Join Ben and Phil for a "stab" at the murder podcast market with some unfortunately obvious crimes before playing the latest mop topped quiz all the kids go wild for and finishing up with a daze over days. There's tax evosion, new format pitches, PCP, thumb quandries, Wesley Snipes and Willie Nelson - together at last, gloves 'n' rhymes, Chad Beans, sock racism, America's Unwanted Chaplin, easily our dumbest quiz yet and oh so much cocaines for everybody! Plus: Why is there a zucchini on your doorstep? Who released "The Best of the Beatles"? And when is the optimum day for your cat to murder you? Its Valentine's week and as per usual Ben and Phil are here to put this d on you. Or is that old Ian Snoop Dogg? Either way, its not a very welcoming start to a show dedicated to all the best romantic things - i.e. murderous computers, Ernest Goes To Camp and the music of Mr Mister...which probably explains why your hosts are both single. That and their faces, personalities and clothing coverage in biscuits obviously. And thats before they've heard this new episode which is really very silly indeed.  So...um, you seeing anyone then? 2020 already doing your head in? Time for an arbitrary time warp back to 1996 for a listener voted top 20 of things including Kenickie, Mark and Lard on the Graveyard Shift, the mysterious mayfly career of Bear Van Beers, the Spice Girls tell us what they want, a brief trip to the Eighth Doctor, Take That splitting up, Quake and Resident Evil change up the videogames, all the heroin films, the mediocre return of Fist of Fun, football came home...for a bit, Jarvis vs Jacko and much more. Its an old school sort of Chart this week as Ben and Phil look at the week in years gone by and find some totally unconnected but suitably ridiculous facts about Bad Boys 3 and the longest gap between movie sequels of all time, wonder why most 1950s sitcom titles sound like filth and run through the best (read: most childish) Royal nicknames of history. Its a very funny episode but if you dont enjoy it, give us a shout and we'll tape a Baby Yoda to the front improving the content by 200%. Its...sort of...almost...Christmas! Time for a bubble of nonsense away from the reality of the previous week as Ben and Phil jump back to the eighties for a listener-suggested game of Christmas TV Schedule Wars. Its almost like one of them has a book out about it. The years 1981, 1985 and 1989 come under scrutiny for "Ratty Old Puppet Fun", "Lethal Amounts of Cliff Richard", "Christmas Dinner Sitcom Disasters", "Shit Disney" and lots of "Things They'd Never Show Now" among other things selected by you lot.  Plus Smash Hits, the Queen's Speech, Phil goes up against Tiffany (careful now) and the official worst things of 1989. Its promises to be.......on.  If you would like to support our Patreon click here and get two bonus podcasts every month: https://www.patreon.com/dontletschart We've currently got three exclusive, Patreon-only episodes of "Don't Lets Chart" available that will never be on the regular feed. Your favourite facts 'n' fannying about podcast returns with an all star tribute to six decades of Phil Catterall (aged 39). There are messages from his friends - also Ben is there. Plus Phil's top 20 things of all time ever (that arent giant fighting robots) including some nifty 90s shootouts, which comedy act he went to see instead of revising for his GCSEs, best Bonds, the best foot that can be barely considered a food, Greendale pride, perhaps the most stupid quiz yet and lots more. And because its a 40th celebration, the episode is a slightly longer almost 40 minutes in length. Happy all our birthdays!  With huge thanks to Tim Worthington (@outonbluesix), Garreth F Hirons from @_Retrospecticus, @Hark87Podcast main man Paul Abbott, Christine Coulson (www.facebook.com/MadeWithYouInMindUK/) and Paul Gannon (@TheCheapShowPod) for their brilliant contributions. Bigger, Better, Stronger, the other one. Yes, Dont Let's Chart is back back BACK! And with the same great taste you remember - vinegar and tyres - mmm mmm, just like Uncle Grandma used to make. If you're new to the show, its a crazy race against time as charts on the fun life of Michael Jackson, programmes that switched out everything between series and the things this very podcast has outlasted since we launched in April compete in go karts to collect tokens which translate to amazing prizes. Actually, no...that was Fun House. Christ knows what this is.  With thanks to Louise Nilon for reasons.
