You've heard of the State of the Union address. Well, today, since May is Mental Health Awareness Month, Dr. Carole reports on 'The State of Americans' Mental Health'. She describes 3 paradigms - or models - which describe the psychological issues people are dealing with, as a result of Covid19 and other challenges of the past year and a half. Ask yourself which symptoms describe how you're feeling. First, there's what Dr. Carole calls the 'WALL-E Syndrome'. A scene in the movie WALL-E is unforgettable and prophetic. It's the scene where people are endlessly spinning around on an amusement park ride, being fed junk food and entertainment, getting ever more mindless, fat and lazy. Second, is what Dr. Carole calls Reluctant Reentry Syndrome. There are 10 symptoms that may describe you, if you're feeling less than gleeful about jumping back outside into the 'new normal'. And third is simply depression - feeling sad about how the world has changed and wondering if you want to live in it anymore. Dr. Carole encourages you to see the lifting of Covid lockdowns as an opportunity to re-invent yourself. Take time to think about what aspects of your old life you want to keep and what you want to change. Needless to say, if you're having serious symptoms of these 3 paradigms that describe Americans' Mental Health today, you should get help.
