This show is consistently amazing. Funny, funny, funny and slyly subversive. The humor is as dry as bone meal in this breezy cooking show where existential dread is just a measuring spoon away. It's really not like anything else out there currently. Smart and unusual in the way that Welcome to Night Vale is. Give it a listen!

Maybe it's odd to say this, but this post-apocalyptic show has brought me so much comfort and hope these past few weeks. It's also brought some amazing recipes into my life! It has the cadence of an NPR cooking show but the worldbuilding of, like Terminator meets V for Vendetta--it's crazy that it works as well as it does! For a show that can be as dark as it is about the future (and present) of humanity, it has an unshakeable core of hope and resilience. Whenever Elaine signs off with her signature "not crying, hugging you" it truly does feel like she's talking to me, not pretending the world isn't falling apart, but reassuring me that people care and my enjoyment of life (and food) still matters, and it's really what I think we all need to hear. Couldn't love it more.

Since I'm first to review, can I have dibs on this podcast? No take-backsies. I love love love this podcast. It's charming and hilarious and I'm pretty sure you can actually make the recipes. Elaine is perfect, all the characters are fun to spend time with, and the writing and production are enviably wonderful. Dig in and enjoy!

Love it, love it, love it! The world is so well realised in this show. Each episode kind of stands alone, but a whole narrative is also unfolding behind it all. Wonderful work!

I absolutely adore this show! The acting and writing are incredible and, though I was afraid it would hit a little too close to home in these times, it has such a light touch and makes me feel comforted with each episode. Definitely a five-star show!

I adore this podcast! It's oddly relaxing and comforting for a post-apocalyptic cooking podcast, in a world where bread is illegal. A dentist does her best to bring people in to cook meals with whatever they have and usually ends up letting her guests have most of it. I love Elaine's sign-off - "Not crying, hugging you".

I absorbed this podcast so quickly. At the time I listened, I was unsure whether the situation they were in would soon become alarmingly familiar. It was a good bit of fun to give myself at a point when I was getting rather anxious about the future. I'm particularly grateful that my then-recent habit of accumulating taco seasoning packets and using them to enhance less amazing dishes was affirmed a bit by the good dentist/chef. I'm really looking forward to what's in store come season two.

I love this podcast. It's got a distinct sort of vibe and straight forward humor, all amongst a rich world that's gradually explored across time. Soul-food is right; it just works in a couple different ways. Like a lot of what happens/is said in this show.

When I became aware of this show I was also looking to make a story based cooking/recipe podcast so I came in hyper critical (unjustified, but either way) and was also a little upset thinking that my idea would be too close, but I was wrong!This show is so original and one hundred percent worth a listen! I need to listen back through and try the recipes, they all sounded really good.
