TRANSCRIPTION:Everybody I'm https://www.linkedin.com/in/stephenjbuehler/ (Stephen Buehler) and I'm a https://www.goodtherapy.org/learn-about-therapy/types/somatic-psychotherapy (somatic psychotherapist). I am very happy to share a new podcast. I'm calling "https://empathicdistress.captivate.fm (Empathic Distress)." It's going to be, I hope an interesting, informative look at different points of view around a phenomenon. That's very common and is sometimes known in other ways, you know, compassion, fatigue, or burnout. In the context of emotional labor that sometimes caregivers provide, emotional helpers provide, , you know, just looking at the impact of emotional events, big events that have , high-impact emotions. In them that can be shocking or scary or terrifying. So empathic distress is a podcast where we'll talk about these things with experts, people like psychologists, psychotherapists, trauma experts, neuroscientists.People who know about parenting and attachment, you know, the brain in relationship in development and what happened. And so when there is a traumatic event or a scary event and how that can blur us our sense of ourselves, our sense another, um, and in particular, how that impacts children and. Also impacts adults who had these kinds of experiences as children. So we'll, we'll be talking about all these things and very, very excited about it. So I hope that we'll not only share a good points-of-view, but we'll also be imparting something useful. My personal goal is to raise awareness and insight about this, this topic that is, as I say, very, very common and prevalent.Empathic distress. In fact, I wrote a list of ... I think the people that have these kinds of dilemmas. Bommonly they're in categories of first responders, you know, the, the police, the firefighters, uh, EMT, ambulance drivers, uh, crisis responders, you know, the doctors, the nurses, the techs, uh, the admin folks, the teams, the leaders of these hospitals, the therapists.Everybody who's working on these things. Um, you know, everybody, who's also a secondary support, um, people who are clergy or psychotherapists or psychologists, social workers, um, peer support people, you know, the, the helpers and, um, in particular, I think this is the dilemma, um, for, you know, parents and people with parents. So pretty much all of us, um, but certainly, um, caregivers of children, um, You know, PE teachers, uh, especially children who have, have vulnerabilities in their, in their personal stories or in their history. So we want to understand all this and bring in these perspectives around the phenomena of empathic distress, where empathy and distress happen at the same time. And then there's a blurring in a merger in a way of, of people. And, uh, and, and the nervous systems can go into alarm bell mode. So we want to explore that moment and look at it from different angles and hopefully, uh, it'll be, it'll be interesting and fun for you. So I I'll start to, you know, uh, deliver these and I look forward to the opportunities to connect with you all.All right.
