RATING
This is a decent story with clumsy writing and super-amateurish acting. Although the performers improve a bit through each season, the lead remains wooden and unemotional. Her acting sounds like she's just reading aloud from a page of an encyclopedia or something. It just brings the whole thing down. And some other characters were cast terribly. I understand that some productions need to work up to being really professional, but they should have ditched Hope after the first season. Absolutely terrible. I stuck with this because the story is really not bad at all. The writing is a little simplistic and meh... but the story keeps it compelling. It's too bad about the casting though. It would be cool to hear this professionally produced with good actors. Recommend We're Alive instead if you can't deal with a 2" x 4" in the lead.
A full cast post apocalyptic audiodrama, this show is really ambitious. The sound and production is great, so is the story. The acting is sort of laid back and I miss a bit more intensity and excitement.Listen if you like a good SciFi thriller - and don't mind feeling, that you've got an alien chasing after you!
It's possible that End of All Hope improves along the way - I have often heard it does. But I'm afraid first impressions count and season one failed to deliver. The voice acting is stilted and lifeless, clearly delivered by an inexperienced cast. The plot is your standard alien invasion stuff and doesn't really add anything new. I adore 7Lamb, with Story and Tower 4 big favourites of mine, but I cannot bring myself to continue End of All Hope. Cannot personally recommend it but you may wish to look elsewhere for more positive reviews from those who stuck around. I would highly encourage you to suggest the other, fantastic above-mentioned efforts from the team.
Great story, really enjoying it. Particularly enjoy the soundscaping (the "ships" give me chills.) Wish it were a little less heteronormative, but you can't have everything. :-)
I have been listening since S1, I just wish they would do a short review of the previous season before starting a new one. Have lost my place at the start of S4 and its difficult to listen to as have forgotten where the plot left off.
The podcast could use better voice acting, but the story is good. Each episode, I hope for the character of Jay, who is apparently a man-child who whines about anything and everything, to die. Unfortunately, it seems he has plot armor.
Easy to follow, alien invasion podcast. Some questionable acting in parts. Could do with some emotion and intensity in the narrative sections. But all in all pretty good.
My facial expression listening to the first 11 episodes : 😖I will continue listening in the hope that their acting will improve to level 🙂Finally, some good "news" : I think End of All Hope is a very well-written and, so far, really exciting story!
The voice acting is so terrible that it completely pulls the listener out of the sophomoric story. The 2-second pause after each spoken line, as if everyone is reading the script for the first time and politely waiting their turn to speak, is just cringe-worthy. The clichéd and silly dialogue isn't helped by wooden readers with no acting skills. I gave it about 5 episodes, then just couldn't take it anymore.
I really love the story. I'm a sucker for a good apocalyptic story. I am now on season 5 after binging the series this past month. I have laughed and actually cried when certain characters have met an end. Great story!
A nice post-apocalyptic podcast following some people trying to survive an alien invasion. A lot of action.
This is one of the best - tons of action, a great story, and I hope it never ends. This is the go to audio drama for me regarding an alien invasion.
Every time a new episode drops into my feed, i feel my post pandemic depression momementarily fade with a smile of excitement and anticipation. Just finished season 5... while i enjoyed the latest season, it was rather slowly paced and could have been improved with a more enriched soundscape and audio transitions between storylines.the story is great. The acting is servicable and, at times, excellent. Paralyzed, Tower 4, and Story are imo superior, but the end of all hope is by no means hopeless and is worth a listen.
I listened to all seasons at once (well from the beginning through to the end of season 4,) and I loved it! I feel like when you like drama full cast podcasts, then you need to have at least a whole season to review at once, kinda like a Netflix binge. But back to "End of all hope," I love the story line, how freaked out it made me at times and the lovie parts and of course the characters, who make it all come to life. I try not to "bad mouth" a PC that I enjoy, so, again, another review where I won't be posting any cons with the pros of this PC. Great job entire PC team!
I’m giving it 4 stars because I personally enjoy the story and the writing. The acting doesn’t seem to improve from season to season 😩 it’s so bad at times.
I listened to 4 seasons over a cross country drive. Season 1 the intriguing idea was introduced well. It's captivating for the imagination. Season 2 flounders - two of the three main characters don't really do anything or make any advances towards their destination, and that's over 16 episodes. Season 3 repeats the formula with the same main characters who were stagnant in season 2, but it is executed better. The tertiary characters are more complicated and have a reason for being there. Season 4 seems to learn, and those two main characters start making real advances towards their goal. Unfortunately the strongest character from seasons 2 and 3 becomes very repetitive and petulant in the 4th season, but maybe that's natural for the end of the world. Season 1 made particularly good use of sound - there's sometimes almost a minute of mood foley to represent changes, and it's very effective. Season 2 brought some additions to the music team, and the industrial music transitions just don't work for a while. It's reigned in, and in later seasons is used as a seasoning instead of the whole meal with nice effect. I think the good idea really makes this a worthwhile and enjoyable listen, but there are a few warts. The most glaring - "Jesus." I listened to Tower 4 before End of All Hope and was irritated with just how often the main character in that show responded to every piece of exposition with "Jesus". It never really feels natural in the conversations and only one voice actor really sells a single delivery of this. It's especially difficult with the Jack Austin characters in both shows. This voice actor creates a lovable character in both shows, but doesn't modulate his intonation very often and uses a predictable cadence, so having the line "Jesus" in every conversation he's in starts to make your eyes roll. It sounds the same every single time. It actually caught me very off guard in Season 4 when Kylie uses one "Jesus" with natural rhythm and inflection. I don't know if there's a magic number, but 4-12 uses in every episode is too much, and it comes across as the writer's ways of telling the audiences "We just gave some exposition ". The other only nitpick starts to become pervasive in Season 4. While i think it's a strong, very enjoyable season, characters begin thinking for the audience, and it doesn't work. Every time Mark gives a command in a tense situation, Ava turns to the audience, saying "Mark was right". It completely interrupts the flow of the scenes. Again, this is a very worthwhile podcast and I would absolutely recommend it. It felt like it should only have been 2 seasons long in total. I would have rated this higher if it had reached resolution in season 2 - good, bad, melancholic, whatever the endgame is, but appreciate the improvement in the characters' agency in Season 4. I think future episodes could be improved if a few of these writing idiosyncrasies were tightened up a bit.
