PORSCHE TAYCAN INTERIOR REVEALED, EVEN GIVES PASSENGER A SCREEN

"Following a teaser on August 20, Porsche has released six images of the new electric car’s cabin ahead of its early September debut, showing a digitally intensive cockpit that brings the company’s interior design language firmly into the 21st century." reports Motor1.com: "The crown jewel of the Taycan’s cockpit is an enormous 16.8-inch curved display atop the steering column. Surrounding the display are touch-capacitive buttons that control the headlights, stability control, suspension firmness, and judging by the image released, the vehicle’s ride height. Look right of the instrument cluster and there’s a 10.9-inch touchscreen where you’d expect it. Look even further and there’s yet another screen where you wouldn’t – right in front of the passenger. When these screens are off, though, they blend neatly into the dash. The center console houses a third (or fourth, if you tick the box for the passenger display) screen, spanning 8.4 inches. It’s the primary interface for the climate controls, but the lower portion doubles as a haptic touchpad. Optional “Race-Tex” upholstery, made from recycled polyester fiber, produces far less carbon dioxide during production. The floor carpets also use recycled materials."

 

The debut is 4th September.

TESLA’S HEAD OF AUTOPILOT SOFTWARE LEAVES IN RESTRUCTURING

"Tesla’s head of Autopilot software, Stuart Bowers, has left the automaker to work for the venture capital firm Greylock after a restructuring of the Autopilot team.

Over the last few months, there have been several reports about a restructuring of Tesla’s Autopilot team." reports Electrek: "Despite all the changes and Musk taking more direct reports, it wasn’t clear if Bowers had actually left the company. Now we have confirmation for the first time that the executive has left Tesla after Greylock Partners announced that he has joined the firm as an Executive in Residence."

SANDY MUNRO STATES TESLA HAS A 10-YEAR LEAD OVER US AUTOMAKERS

"Sandy Munro has another hour-long interview about the ongoing transition to electric vehicles. The interview was conducted by Sean Mitchell of allthingsev.info. On more than one occasion, Munro claims the issue with the major automakers is the number of executives with MBAs, who have a tendency to believe in outsourcing as much as possible. Maybe this a key reason why we see so many executives leaving Tesla, because at Tesla they are actually focused on innovation and not just paying some contractor or supplier to do the hard work." according to Clean TEchnica.

VOLVO UK EXPANDS THE S60 LINE-UP WITH A PLUG-IN HYBRID

"In the UK, Volvo has just extended its S60 range with a plug-in hybrid option. The PHEV comes with a 4wd T8 Twin Engine powertrain combining a 303hp petrol engine with an 87hp (64 kW) electric motor. In this constellation, the S60 offers 36 miles (approx 58 km) of purely electric range." writes electrive: "The new PHEV has an impressive acceleration from 0-62mph (0-100 km/h) in just 4.6 seconds. The new T8 Twin Engine R-Design Plus plug-in hybrid model is priced at £49,805 (54,485 euros)."

 

£49k you say? What about a Tesla Model 3 Dual Motor Performance, 3.2 sec 0-60mph, 162mph top speed, price? £49,000. Although yes, FSD is £5,800

BYD PROFIT TRIPLES AS CHINA'S EV BOOM CONTINUES

"BYD posted a 204 percent rise in first-half profit on Wednesday, as China's new energy vehicle market continues to surge." reports Automotive News Europe: "The Shenzhen-based company, which is backed by U.S. investor Warren Buffett and whose products include full-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, posted net profit of 1.45 billion yuan ($205.29 million), up from 479.10 million yuan a year earlier. BYD sold 145,653 so-called new energy vehicles between January and June, up 95 percent from a year earlier. "

MPS CALL FOR BAN ON NEW PETROL AND DIESEL VEHICLES

"The Government's technology advisory body has called for it to fast-track the ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by five years to 2035 - then banish privately-owned vehicles from the road entirely." according to ThisIsMoney: "It should bring forward the proposed ban on new cars and vans with conventional and hybrid engines and hike fuel duty whenever rail fares rise, the report by the Science and Technology Committee says."

TESLA SUSPENSION UPDATE HELPS MODEL S AND MODEL X HIGH-SPEED DRIVING

"Tesla has piloted a unique way of updating its vehicles' software to add new features and safety improvements remotely. It has adjusted Autopilot and introduced tweaks to improve battery life in the past, but now, the company is using the same system to tune the Model S and Model X suspension over the air." reports Engadet: "The latest software (2019.28.3.1) makes adjustments to the adaptive suspension system, using "dampening algorithms" to better handle speeds over 160 km/h (100mph). It will be useful for drivers in countries like Germany, however, where some roads have no speed limits."

EXPANSION OF ELECTRIC CHARGING STATIONS AT VOLKSWAGEN’S GERMAN SITES BEGINS

The Volkswagen brand is systematically driving its electric offensive and will be installing some 4,000 charging points at its German sites by 2025. The first are already up and running.

4,000 charging points will be gradually phased in at Volkswagen’s ten German sites by 2025

100% green power from renewable sources.

When combined with the activities at dealerships, this means the Volkswagen Group is providing some 36,000 new charging points in Europe.
