Pretty good podcast. Informative and entertaining. I listen to it on my runs. I like some episodes more than others based on my own personal preferences. Ones I liked were on Rigoberta Menchu Tum, Carrie Nation, Sojourner Truth and Bobby Fischer. Generally they only seem to use one source per episode which is fine because it’s a podcast. It’s a good starting point of a topic and can help increase your basic knowledge on well-known or inspirational individuals. Something this podcast could benefit from, which is something everyone can benefit from, is analyzing their own bias. In particular there was a point in the Bobby Fischer episode where they tried to justify the embargo’s against Yugoslavia in the 1990s without discussing the ramifications like how the embargo’s destroyed Yugoslavia’s economy and created widespread poverty and hunger. It should also be noted that the embargo’s were also entirely politically motivated and not morally motivated whatsoever. They say Yugoslavia committed horrible atrocities without elaborating that all three sides (the Croats under Nazi sympathizer Tudjman, the Serbs under Milosevic and the Bosniaks who were partnered with the Croats) committed horrible atrocities which has been proven with incontrovertible evidence by peacekeepers, witnesses and UN spokespeople. It should also be noted that American media reached Mao level proportions of propaganda during the Yugoslav Wars. In other words it was wholly untrustworthy; full of omissions, lies, and partial truths. This podcast seems to reflect that bias. It is a very small part of the podcast but lying about history because it is convenient and upholds the status quo only perpetuates lies and misunderstanding and is counterintuitive to what they are trying to achieve (at least I hope.)
